WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Paul Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released a statement of support for the 2019 Free Iran Rally in Washington D.C.
“Arizona is home to many Iranian-Americans that came to this country to start a new life and create their very own American dream," said Congressman Gosar. "They fled an oppressive regime that has directed violence at their friends, family and colleagues. The current regime is not a friend to the United States and its allies. It suppresses the freedoms of Iranians, sponsors terrorism throughout the Middle East and imprisons political opponents. I full heartedly support Free Iran’s efforts to peacefully transform Iran into a more just nation that respects the rights of all Iranians. May there one day be free and fair democratic elections in Iran.” Background: On June 21st, Iranian-Americans from 40 out of the 50 states converged in Washington D.C. to participate in the Free Iran Rally. The purpose of the Free Iran Rally is to convey the message that the fight for democracy in Iran belongs only to the people of Iran. Furthermore, its goal is to urge support for the Iranian people and recognition of their rights to resist the regime of the Ayatollah Khomeini. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps has armed and trained terrorist militias in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Afghanistan, engaged in cyber terrorism, overseen the expansion of the regime’s nuclear weapons program, and been responsible for the suppression of human rights. |
