Rep. Gosar’s Amendment Passes House—Prohibits Taxpayer Money Going to Muslim Brotherhood and Other Rogue Entities

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously passed a key amendment submitted by U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar, D.D.S. (R-AZ), that prohibits the use of any military funds, or military assistance, to the Muslim Brotherhood, Iran, Syria, Hamas, and Hezbollah.  The amendment was similar to the Gosar amendment passed by the House last year during debate over the FY2012 Defense Appropriations Bill (H.R.2219) and was included in final passage of this year’s bill.

“The case against each of these organizations is well-documented:  Each entity has either sponsored terror activities, performed terror activities, or has engaged in atrocious human rights violations,” said Rep. Gosar.  “Additionally, none of these organizations are friendly towards the United States, and each of them harbor hate towards our friend and ally, Israel. Our government should not be rewarding bad behavior.  Any nation or entity that refuses to recognize the peaceful co-existence of Israel should not get one dime from the United States.  I always say, ‘trust is a series of promises kept.’  These entities have proven themselves untrustworthy.”

The amendment was supported by the Republican Jewish Coalition as well as the Zionist Organization of America.

The U.S. House approved the Fiscal Year 2013 Defense Appropriations Bill (H.R.5856) on a vote of 326-90.  The legislation recognizes our country’s fiscal reality, cutting over $12 billion from the FY2012 House-passed Defense Appropriations Bill.  The legislation provides the necessary resources to guarantee the nation’s security, and proper oversight to ensure the Pentagon uses taxpayer dollars wisely.  Furthermore, it supports military health and family programs to aid current and retired service members and their families.

“Today’s defense bill implements common sense reductions, while ensuring our nation has the resources necessary to deal with the security threats of today and the conflicts of tomorrow,” continued Rep. Gosar. “Our nation’s defense is our federal government’s core constitutional responsibility. I am proud to vote today to better equip, pay and support our brave men and women of the United States military who put their lives on the line to protect our precious freedom.”

Congressman Gosar thanks all of our men and women, both past and present, who have fought to defend our way of life. More information on his views on the military and security can be found at http://gosar.house.gov/.
