Gosar Drops the Hammer on the Veterans Affairs and Calls for Independent Audit – Collaborates with Constituent to Improve VA

Washington, February 10, 2022 | Jessica Lycos (202-379-6385)

WASHINGTON D.C. -Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (R-AZ), issued the following statement after introducing H.R. 6675, the Independent VA Audit Act, legislation proposed by a constituent that would direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to seek to enter into an agreement with a nongovernmental entity to conduct an audit of the healthcare system of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

“We don’t need big government to fix our problems, we just need to take the time to listen to the American people.  So when one of my constituents, Russell Walkner from Bullhead City, Arizona came to me with his suggestion for improving the Veterans Affairs healthcare system, I immediately went to work and turned his common-sense idea into legislation.

Too often veterans in my district have shared horror stories regarding long delays to receive an appointment for hospital care and medical services. An independent audit of the VA healthcare system by an outside private auditor would increase transparency and provide the agency with an unbiased, comprehensive plan to correct these unacceptable delays harming our nation’s veterans.

I’m grateful to Russell for his well thought out idea and will do everything I can to get this legislation passed into law,” concluded Congressman Gosar.
