The Debt Is Too Damn High

Washington, February 2, 2022 | Jessica Lycos (202-379-6385)

WASHINGTON D.C. - Congressman Paul A. Gosar D.D.S. (R-AZ),  issued the following statement in response to the United States' national debt surpassing $30 trillion, nearly five times the nation's annual budget.

“The national debt has reached a calamitous level, tripling in the last decade.  The consequences of this unrestrained and wasteful spending are far more catastrophic than any other threat facing the nation. Congress has, for the last 30 years, failed the American public.

I reiterate my call for a balanced budget. And if we cannot balance the budget rationally, we need a balanced budget constitutional amendment that would force Congress to live within its means, like every one else.

If the federal government spent the largesse it coerces from the people wisely, the overspending would still be a problem. But it does not. The federal government is wasteful and cavalier towards the tax monies it takes.  I have opposed the wasteful spending bills for this and other reasons.   Our people are taxed too much already. We need lower taxes and reduced spending and we need it now.

We cannot continue to print money and spend our way out of this mess.  Unfortunately, Joe Biden and the liberal Democrats who control Congress think the solution is even more spending, raising taxes and growing the size of the federal government. That is the exact wrong answer that got us into this hole.

It is past time for the federal government to get its fiscal house in order and end this stranglehold on our economy once and for all,” concluded Congressman Paul Gosar.

Note: Inflation is a key metric to determine if a country is borrowing too much money.   Inflation is currently at a record 42-year high of 7% officially.
