WASHINGTON D.C. - Congressman Paul Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-4) issued the following statement after the city of Gila Bend, Arizona was forced to declare a State of Emergency as a result of the immigration crisis Mr. Biden created along the southern border: “Today, I sent a letter to Gila Bend Mayor Riggs offering my full support in assisting Gila Bend in coping with this nationally self-inflicted border crisis that had been under control until a recent change in Department of Homeland Security policies. My staff and I are available to assist with navigating the federal bureaucracy. Whether contacting an agency, applying for grants, obtaining support from Immigrations and Customs Enforcement to remove criminal aliens, or Health and Human Services COVID relief, my office is ready to help. I am in complete agreement that the situation is nothing less than a State of Emergency, warranting a swift response from state and federal officials. The current state of our porous border poses a dual threat towards national security and public health and nobody understands this more than the citizens within Arizona's border towns. Border adjacent communities, like Gila Bend, do not have the resources to accommodate a massive influx of illegal migration. I stand ready to help if you need my help,” concluded Rep. Paul Gosar. Background: Earlier this week, in response to the surge of illegal aliens crossing the southern border, Gila Bend Mayor Riggs declared a state of emergency to deal with the crisis. Gila Bend, Arizona is a small, border community with limited resources. The municipality lacks sufficient resources, including shelters and manpower, to deal with the massive influx of illegal aliens.
