Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after voting for the FY2020 National Defense Authorization Act:
Today I voted for passage of the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). With the Yuma Proving Ground and as well as Marine Corp Air Station Yuma (home to the AV-8B Harrier IIs and F-35B Lightning IIs of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 (MAWTS-1)), in my district, along with Luke AFB, Ft. Huachuca, Davis-Monthan and many other military assets in Arizona, I am pleased to support our military and its mission to defend our nation. This bill gives our troops a much-deserved pay raise, will help rebuild our military and, with reallocation by the President, some of these funds may be used to secure our border. These are all positive gains derived from the bill. I remain concerned, however, that the NDAA fails to acknowledge the disturbing revelations of the Pentagon’s first-ever audit, where $21 million of taxpayer money went missing. We need all public agencies, including the military, to be held accountable for wise and prudent spending. Further, the NDAA fails to address reforms for military justice, including prosecutorial abuse and harassment of our warriors, self-defeating rules of engagement, and judicial protocols which often denies our warfighters the justice and liberties they deserve. |
