Today, during the Oversight & Reform Committee markup, my bill, H.R. 3314, passed and is now headed to the house floor. This bill would name the United States Post Office in Lake Havasu City, Arizona the "Lake Havasu City Combat Veterans Memorial Post Office Building."

I introduced this legislation to honor six combat veterans from Lake Havasu: Carl Hammar, Dylan Thomas Reid, Anthony Jonathan Sausto, Patrick Allan Tinnell, Scott Ray Broadston, and Carey Dean Harmon. Below are some brief details about these distinguished individuals who gave the ultimate sacrifice in order to keep our country safe.

Carl Hammar - Carl was born in Sweden and moved to Lake Havasu during his senior year of high school. Hammar married his high school sweetheart Abby Mahan in 2005. Together they had one child. Hammar enlisted in the Army after spending a year at Mohave Community College. Carl served twice in Iraq and Afghanistan and gave his life on July 14, 2012 in Musa Kheyl, Afghanistan.

Dylan Thomas Reid – Dylan was born in Ironwood, Michigan to Terry and Kelli Reid. Eventually he moved to Arizona and graduated from Desert Technology High School in Lake Havasu City. In 2008, Dylan proudly stepped up for his country and joined the United States Army. He passed away in 2010 in Iraq after faithfully serving his country. He is survived by his daughter Avery.

Anthony Jonathan Sausto - Anthony was born in New Jersey before moving to Lake Havasu City after high school. It was there that he joined the Army and found his calling. He passed away in 2007 in Baghdad, Iraq. He was a great man with a big heart who saw the brighter side of life.

Patrick Allan Tinnell – Patrick was originally born in Los Angeles, California but grew up in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Tinnell was an active individual and found his passion in BMX biking. He also found time in his youth to set good examples for students by volunteering. Patrick joined the army in September 2005 and was the first from Lake Havasu City to be killed in the war on terror, passing away 2006 in Siniyah, Iraq. In his honor, the town came together to build the Tinnell Memorial Sports Park in 2013. His mother, Debbie Tinnell, is actually the current postmaster for the Lake Havasu Post Office.

Scott Ray Broadston – Scott was born in San Diego and grew up most of his life in Tucson and Lake Havasu. He graduated from Tucson High School and enlisted in the Army in 1969. In Vietnam, he had the distinction of flying UH-1H helicopters. On June 5th, 1970, Scott Broadston passed away just ten miles west from the town of An Nonh, Vietnam.

Carey Dean Harmon - SPC Carey Dean Harmon became the first soldier from Lake Havasu City to be killed in action in Vietnam, as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds at the age of 19, on April 26, 1968. Harmon was attached to the 26th Infantry Regiment, nicknamed The Blue Spaders. Harmon had a serious girlfriend at the time that knew him as “Gary” and was planning on marrying him before he gave his life.

Congressman Gosar: “This Post office is a dedication to not only these six brave heroes, but to all of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice to keep our nation safe. These men represent the best of Lake Havasu City, and what it means to be an American. Their memory will forever live on in this city through this office.”
