Rep Gosar Denounces President Obama’s Budget Plan President Obama’s 2013 Budget is filled with gimmicks and accounting tricks. In the 3.8 trillion dollar 2013 Budget proposal released by the White House this morning, President Obama offers more of the same. It shows his continued failure to understand the basic principles needed for economic recovery – get out of the way of private sector job growth, cut spending and do not add additional tax burdens to hardworking Americans. We cannot tax our way out of this crisis. Specifically these budget cuts will have an effect on Arizona’s in the following ways: Federal Land/ Federal Spending Instead of reducing spending, this budget will spend millions of taxpayer dollars to buy more federal land even though we can’t afford to properly maintain the land we already own. My district is 70% public land. This poses a wide array of problems that hamper economic development. Medicare/Medicaid Cuts Medicare and Medicaid by $364 billion without implementing any effective reform in order to save the program Increases out of pocket costs for seniors on Medigap (Medicare supplemental insurance) Infrastructure Interior budget slashes nearly $50 million for ongoing and new construction of dams, canals and other water projects that supply power and drinking water in the West. Environment Funding increase for EPA’s air quality division, which has put forth some of the most burdensome regulations to Arizona energy producers of this Administration – but cuts money to states and tribes to manage their own clean air and clean water supplies Energy Instead of promoting new American energy production, this budget will make energy more expensive for American families and small businesses by imposing new taxes and fees. |
