In Case You Missed It:

Today, U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) appeared on C-SPAN's Washington Journal to discuss the ongoing problems within the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. He discussed his meeting, last week, with Acting Veterans Affairs Secretary Sloan Gibson about necessary changes needed to be implemented immediately.

“I want veterans [in my district] to pick the doctors they choose. That is how you build communities, to allow people to utilize the services that they have in their hometown.”

----

“I represent most of rural Arizona… I want the same opportunities that those in the metropolitan areas have. I want [our constituents] to have the same recourses that are already present instead of rebuilding a dinosaur healthcare system.”

----

“[Last night’s legislation that passed] is giving that opportunity so that we can start looking at allowing a veteran to pick and choose, to be sure that the center of the universe is the veteran not the system.”

---

“[In the House bill] there are consequences for bad actions… we want to make sure that care is given directly and appropriately to our veterans and it has a lot to do with management style.”

On Tuesday June 10, 2014, the House successfully passed The Veterans Access to Care Act (H.R. 4810), of which Congressman Gosar was a cosponsor. This bill allows veterans who have been waiting for care access private non-Department medical facilities across the country. This comes after the VA released the results of a Nationwide Access Audit which reported over 57,000 veterans nationwide were still waiting for an initial medical appointment. Congressman Gosar is a cosponsor of this important legislation.
