Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after the Secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh Johnson, announced that he will travel to Nogales, Arizona on June 25, 2014, to visit the facilities housing detained illegal immigrants:

“It is about time that someone from the Administration made the trip down to Arizona and witnessed with their own eyes the consequences of their flawed immigration policies. The Obama Administration’s new policy regarding the transfer of illegal aliens to Arizona and elsewhere has created significant public health and safety dangers as Arizona citizens and other Americans are being exposed to tuberculosis, scabies and other diseases. Additionally, detained immigrants in the Nogales facility are being crammed together by the thousands in horrific living conditions.

“For far too long President Obama has facilitated lawlessness at our southern border which has ultimately incentivized one of the largest surges of illegal immigration in recent history. The President should secure our border and stop providing amnesty to those who manage to make it into our country and enter illegally.

“I have called on this Administration countless times to end their flawed immigrant transfer policy and I hope this trip to Nogales will spur Secretary Johnson to do exactly that. Additionally, I demand that Secretary Johnson and the Department of Homeland Security answer the numerous questions I have asked about these policies and procedures. The American people have a right to know the legal statute being used to carry out immigrant transfers and if such actions violate federal law.”

Background:

Congressman Gosar sent a letter to Secretary Johnson on June 13, 2014 requesting additional information regarding the transfer of illegal immigrants to numerous states including Arizona. The letter can be found HERE.
