Rep. Gosar's Bill To Rename Prescott Post Office Clears Hurdle

Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after the bill he introduced to designate a post office in Prescott, Arizona as the Barry M. Goldwater Post Office passed the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform:

"Barry Goldwater served Arizona and our nation with honor and integrity for decades. His lengthy tenure as a public servant included five terms in the United States Senate and a nomination to be the Republican candidate for president in 1964. Known as 'Mr. Conservative,' he was influential in the revival of political conservatism during the 1960s.

"I have deep respect for Barry Goldwater and his efforts to restore conservatism in our nation and I'm pleased the Committee recognized that this patriotic American deserves a fitting tribute. I now urge the full House of Representatives to take up this bill in a timely manner."

BACKGROUND:
H.R. 3027, a bill introduced by Rep. Gosar, designates the post office at 442 Miller Valley Road in Prescott, Arizona as the Barry M. Goldwater Post Office. It was co-sponsored by Arizona's entire Congressional Delegation - both Republicans and Democrats - and is also supported by the Goldwater family and the Goldwater Institute.

The bill was referred to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, on which Rep. Gosar serves, and passed the Committee during a full committee business meeting today. H.R. 3027 now awaits passage by the full House of Representatives.
