Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after writing an op-ed calling for the resignation of the Director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Thomas Frieden. "While the recent Ebola outbreak poses a real threat to the United States, the incompetence and indecisiveness of the CDC and the Obama Administration is just as dangerous. Yesterday, it was reported that Dallas nurse Amber Vinson, who recently was diagnosed with Ebola and cared for Thomas Duncan, checked with CDC before boarding a flight from Ohio to Texas after running a slight fever. The CDC cleared Vinson for travel and failed to prevent her from getting on a plane with more than 100 passengers and traveling halfway across the country.

"The protection of the American people is the most important role of our government. CDC Director Thomas Frieden has failed to lead and has shown gross incompetence in his actions or lack thereof to prevent the spread of Ebola domestically. We cannot afford such mistakes when American lives are at risk. That is why I am calling for the immediate resignation of Director Frieden. At this critical moment, we need leaders who will act boldly and with foresight to prevent the threat of Ebola from spreading. Americans deserve real leadership and accountability."

Background:

On October 8, 2014, Congressman Gosar led an effort with 25 bipartisan House colleagues calling on President Obama to institute a travel ban and consider a possible quarantine for individuals traveling from West Africa countries with widespread Ebola infections to the United States.
