Rep. Gosar: Our Tax System is Completely Broken

Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement in regard to Tax Day:

"Our tax system is completely broken; the tax code is too complex and the tax burden is too high, which not only destroys jobs and slows economic growth but also impedes the ability of families and businesses to make long-term financial decisions. Families and businesses currently waste thousands of dollars and countless hours to ensure they don't run afoul of our nation’s more than 80,000-page tax code.

"Moreover, after the IRS's targeting of conservative groups, Americans are worried about the IRS targeting them for their political beliefs. The individuals responsible for this reprehensible behavior must be held accountable, which is why I'm leading a legislative effort – as part of my work to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse within the federal government - to block bonuses for employees of the IRS division in which the targeting occurred. It’s also why I voted last week to hold this division’s former manager, Lois Lerner, in contempt of Congress.

"We need tax reform. We need a flatter, fairer tax code, one that rewards Americans for their hard work and allows them to keep more of the money they earn. This will unshackle the economy and create jobs so that folks across the country can finally find work again."
