Rep. Gosar: Administration's Benghazi Cover Up Reprehensible

Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after questioning witnesses at a hearing held by the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. The hearing focused on the September 11, 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi.

"President Obama wants the American public to believe that the scandal he created over Benghazi is a ‘phony scandal.’ The only thing phony, it turns out, are his talking points, lies and distortions about what happened. Rather than inform Americans of the truth - that our diplomats were attacked by terrorists - he refused to label it a terror attack and instead chose to blame Americans by claiming the attack was related to an ‘Internet video.’
 
“He, along with Hillary Clinton, left brave Americans to fend for themselves. Today we heard testimony from Gen. Lovell that the military was standing by to help but the White House never called them up. I find this reprehensible.

“My Oversight Committee continued its role as the chief watchdog body in Congress. The Obama administration claims that the House is investigating a ‘phony scandal' but the timeline of events and the details that the administration has given us simply don’t add up.

“We now know from a recently released email that the administration was not concerned with reporting facts but was very concerned about public perception of President Obama, the strength of his policies, and the response - or lack thereof - to a terrorist attack. They were less concerned about protecting the four heroes who died in Benghazi than they were about the President's image. This is cowardice.

“I will not rest until the families of these brave men, and the American people, learn the whole truth and until the administration officials responsible for this cover up are held accountable.”
