Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after the House voted to support H.R. 596, a bill to repeal the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and health care-related provisions in the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010:

“I applaud the resiliency and determination of my House colleagues in the complete and utter rejection of Obamacare demonstrated by today’s passage of H.R. 596.

“Nearly five years ago, Democrats rammed through Obamacare in one of the most shameful and partisan legislative efforts Congress has ever seen. No member of Congress had time to read the massive bill and Nancy Pelosi, infamously remarked, ‘We have to pass this bill so that you can find out what’s in it.’ The American people have seen what’s in it and this bill has resulted in patients being unable to keep their doctors, policy cancellations and skyrocketing premiums.

“The electorate spoke clearly in 2010 as well as 2014 and rejected Obamacare as a failed social experiment that never should have seen the light of day. Since then, Republicans have been listening to the American people and developing practical solutions to repeal and replace Obamacare with a patient-centered, free market alternative. I made it a priority to play a role in developing such legislation in order to give families in our country more choices without the unworkable mandates and billions in taxes included in Obamacare.

“The people of the Arizona’s Fourth Congressional district sent me to Congress to fight back against this unworkable law, built on a lie. Obamacare was about increasing government control over a large sector of the economy. I remain committed in my efforts to fulfill the promises I made to the people of Arizona and overturn this unprecedented expansion of the federal government.”

Background:

Courtesy of the House Republican Caucus:
Since the beginning of the 112th Congress, the House has voted nearly 60 times to repeal, defund, or dismantle PPACA in full or in part. This includes three full repeal votes on January 19, 2011 (passed by a vote of 245-189); July 11, 2012 (passed 244-185); and May 16, 2013 (passed by a vote of 229-195).  The House voted to repeal PPACA on four additional occasions in the FY 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 Budget Resolutions. As a result of these efforts, several bills have been enacted that directly repeal or rescind funding from provisions of PPACA.

Congressman Gosar was an original cosponsor of H.R. 3121, the American Health Care Reform Act introduced in the 113th Congress. You can read more about this legislation HERE.
