Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after the House of Representatives successfully passed The Veterans Access to Care Act (H.R. 4810), of which he was a cosponsor:

“Today the House of Representatives took action in providing relief to our nation’s veterans by allowing those who have been waiting for care to receive help at non-Department or private facilities. H.R. 4810 will allow more than 57,000 of our veterans waiting 30 days or more for an initial appointment to have access to private sector medical facilities that are closer to home and available to treat them now… when they need it, not after they die.

“I have long maintained that patient choice and competition is the key to health care reform. This is a first step in correcting the massive problems infecting the Department of Veterans Affairs. It is a fundamental flaw to believe that the government alone can effectively and efficiently provide high quality medical care for our nation’s service members. Moving forward, the VA must continue to partner with private medical facilities, especially in rural communities, to help eliminate the hurdles in the way of access to care.”
