WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report that found insurers selling Obamacare plans do not segregate funds to cover abortion from their Obamacare subsidies:
Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report that found insurers selling Obamacare plans do not segregate funds to cover abortion from their Obamacare subsidies: “This latest broken promise from the Obama Administration is without a doubt the most shameful discovery yet as we are still ‘finding out what is in the bill’. For decades members of Congress on both sides of the isle and of all faiths have come to the common understanding that taxpayer dollars should never be used to fund abortion procedures. “This utterly failed healthcare law, as well as the administration that jammed it through Congress, has no more credibility with the American people. This violation of the law must not stand and I will continue to work with my colleagues in the House to replace this unlawful legislation with a patient-centered, free market healthcare alternative that does not violate the trust of the American people.” Additional: The full GAO report can be found HERE. According to the report, among a sample of 18 insurers, “all but three issuers indicated that the [abortion coverage] benefit is not subject to any restrictions, limitations, or exclusions.” Additionally, the GAO report confirmed that taxpayer funds are being utilized to fund abortions by more than 1,000 exchange plans throughout the country. Congress has repeatedly requested the administration publish data on the exchange plans and their funding procedures but have been stonewalled by the Obama Administration. On September 9, 2009, President Obama told the Joint Session of Congress “And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up -- under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.” That transcript can be found HERE.
