FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: July 18, 2011 CONTACT: Hannah Loy 202-225-2315 Gosar Sends Letter to the President on Spending Crisis—Urges Whitehouse to Submit Proposal Today, Congressman Paul Gosar (AZ-01) sent a letter to the President Obama urging the President to develop a White House proposal to address the spending crisis. Gosar, along with Arizona Congressmen Trent Franks (AZ-01) and Ben Quayle (AZ-03), along with 64 additional Members of Congress, explained that: “The nation’s spending is out of control. That is clearly evidenced by the necessity of your request to increase our nation’s debt limit. . . . This is not a partisan crisis. It is a national crisis.” Gosar went on to ask the President to present Congress with a “written detailed proposal to raise the debt ceiling” that can be evaluated. Today’s letter was a follow-up to a previous Congressional request on June 6, 2011 asking the President for some type of debt ceiling proposal. Gosar said, “It is unfortunate we even have to send these letters. Leadership means being the first one to propose a solution. Congress has been offering budgets and plans. The Obama Administration has been silent on any comprehensive plan and simply repeats the need to raise taxes on corporate jets. We can tax all corporate jets out of existence, starting with Air Force One. It won’t be a drop in the bucket of a $14.3 trillion debt, a debt that is growing. “ ### |
