FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 09, 2012 CONTACT: Apryl Marie Fogel Gosar Applauds Progress on Lower Santa Cruz River Watershed Project Congressman Paul Gosar D.D.S (R-AZ) released the following statement regarding Arizona Governor Jan Brewer’s proclamation in support of the Lower Santa Cruz River Watershed Project. Congressman Gosar said today, “I am proud to have led the Congressional efforts in support of the Lower Santa Cruz River Watershed Project. The Lower Santa Cruz River, an international waterway, has a long history of catastrophic flooding during major storms, resulting in severe damage to crops, farms, housing, communities, businesses, and infrastructure across our region. Recently, the Army Corps of Engineers announced plans to begin initial planning assistance, data collection, and analysis, an important first step for the project. I appreciate the Governor lending her support today, and look forward to continuing to work with the entire Lower Santa Cruz River Alliance to ensure this important federal infrastructure project becomes a reality.” In May 2011, Congressman Gosar and Congressman Griljalva sent a bipartisan letter to the Office of Management and Budget and the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) expressing support for the Lower Santa Cruz River Alliance’s efforts to jump start the project. Congressman Gosar has met with DC-based and regional officials from the Corps on various occasions to raise federal awareness of the project. The Lower Santa Cruz River is an international waterway, therefore making it the federal government’s responsibility to take action and protect the citizens of the region from catastrophic flooding. ### |
