U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar, DDS (AZ-01) on the passage of the three week FY 2011 Continuing Resolution
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 15, 2011 CONTACT: Stefani Zimmerman 202-225-2315 Congressman Paul Gosar on the Passage of the Short-Term Continuing Resolution U.S. Congressman Paul Gosar, DDS (AZ-01) on the passage of the three week FY 2011 Continuing Resolution: “Each and every day I listen to my constituents and hear about the tough decisions they have to make. All too often people in my district have to make a choice between what they want and what they can afford. If Main Street has to make these choices, then the Federal Government should also do the same. That is why I voted to cut $6 billion from the government’s budget for the next three weeks. Just last month we learned that the government ran the largest one-month deficit in history and the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has raised this year’s deficit estimate from $1.1 trillion to over $1.5 trillion. “While making cuts is never an easy thing to do, it is something that must be done. We are at a turning point in our nation. Either we act responsibly and start to cut spending, or we put on blinders and spend hard-earned taxpayer dollars without regard to the consequences. I was elected to rein in spending and ensure the money we spend is spent wisely- not to shut down the government. “I believe that the spending cuts must not stop here. We must return in three weeks and pass the remainder of the FY 2011 Continuing Resolution with significant spending cuts. Then, we must start looking at the President’s bloated FY 2012 budget request and open up the dialogue on what our nation can and cannot afford. Finally, we need to have an honest conversation about entitlement reform. I believe in the strength of our nation, and I believe that we can improve these programs while keeping the promises made to our seniors and not placing the burden on the backs of our youth. “However, if we are serious about getting our fiscal house in order, then all parties must come to the table and be willing to make sacrifices for the greater good of our nation. I know we can do this. We must do this. Together, we have no other choice than to get our nation back on a path to economic prosperity.” Dr. Paul Gosar is serving his first term in Congress as the Representative to Arizona’s First Congressional District. As a healthcare provider and small business owner, Gosar is focused on bringing jobs back to the district, reforming health care, reining in government spending and ensuring that his constituents are involved in the solution process.
