The Hopi Tribal Council has directed its Executive Officers to pursue whatever means necessary to stop our “katsina friends” from being illegally sold at auctions and forever lost in private collections.
Chairman Herman G. Honanie stated “We are thankful for the immediate support of the entire Arizona delegation and especially the participation of Congressmen Gosar and Schweikert to assist the Hopi Tribe in the return of our sacred objects. Our Katsina Friends must be returned home. We will do all that it takes for their safe return.”
Note to all editors and journalists covering the issue: please refrain from publishing images of the sacred objects as well as describing the sacred objects as “masks” in your reporting as the objects embody the “katsina friends” or in other words, the “katsina friends” embody the spiritual deity most sacred to the Hopis.
