Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) released the following statement after President Obama delivered his final State of the Union Address before a joint session of Congress:
“Tonight, President Obama attempted to rewrite history and made it clear that he will continue to circumvent Congress in order to enact his failed policies by executive fiat. After seven years in office, the president still doesn’t seem to understand that solutions come from Main Street, not Washington bureaucrats. Attempting to fix our nation’s problems with big government solutions and leading from behind has been a disaster, both domestically and abroad. The State of the Union is poor because of this failed president.
“Ultimately, this president and his administration will be defined by a legacy of lawlessness. They have opened the door to unprecedented abuse of executive overreach that threaten the foundation of our Republic. Whether it is the DOJ, IRS, EPA or DHS, President Obama has weaponized government agencies in order to punish his political opponents and enact his partisan agenda by any and all means necessary. In the meantime, our foreign policy is in shambles, terrorism is on the rise and our allies can’t count on us and our enemies don’t fear us.
“Along with blocking Obama’s executive overreach, Republicans in the House need a plan to take action right now and enact proactive solutions ─ this year ─ not next year ─ right now. We need to enact policies that empower the people and allow hard-working Americans to pursue their own prosperity. For my part, I have led the way by introducing 27 bills last year alone that garnered the support of more than 600 bipartisan cosponsors. My legislation was primarily focused on reining in destructive EPA regulations, cutting federal waste fraud and abuse and expanding economic opportunity. Despite all of the forces working in D.C. to maintain our broken system, I know that there are countless Arizonans and people throughout the country who will take a bold stand with me to stop this madness. There is too much at stake. We must continue to fight.”
