Nearly one year has passed and the treatment of political prisoners held in detention facilities Washington, DC in relation to the event of January 6 is appalling. After months of Representatives Greene, Gaetz, Gohmert and Gosar (G4) being denied entry to the jail, including being forcibly locked out of the facility, access to tour the jail was finally granted.
This week, Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene released a shocking report detailing the conditions being incurred by the January 6th political prisoners still being detained in two detention facilities in Washington, DC.
The physical conditions described by these inmates can only be described as inhumane. Lacking access to their attorneys, families and even proper nutrition these inmates are suffering disproportionately from long periods of isolation from the outside world. Many inmates continue to describe harrowing stories of being held in confinement for 19-20 hours a day and only being allowed outside for fresh air twice a week. They are being denied the right to attend chaplain or religious services. They aren’t allowed communion. Many described having their hair burned off with harsh chemicals. Others have no access to working toilets. And many more shared horrible stories of lacking adequate medical treatment.
These are not hardened thugs, murderers or gang members with long histories of crimes. These are not unruly or dangerous violent criminals. These are moms, dad, brothers, sisters, veterans and teachers. All political prisoners who continue to be persecuted and endure the pain of unjust suffering. I have repeatedly called for all individuals arrested for illegal acts on January 6 to be treated fairly. They are deserving of equal justice under the law. You can watch the press conference the G4 had this week highlighting this report here.
