This Week With Gosar

No Justice in America
This was a very sad and dark week in America as a liberal jury in New York City convicted President Donald Trump in a witch hunt show trial. This rigged trial has been a sham from the beginning, and I completely disagree with this miscarriage of justice.
This week, much has been written about the political show trial. By definition, a show trial is a judicial trial in which the guilt or innocence of the defendant, in this case, President Trump, has already been determined. The purpose of holding a show trial is to serve as an example and a warning to other would-be dissidents or opponents. In other words, show trials are examples of political persecution.
The show trial against President Trump was a public demonstration of the abusive power of the left and their efforts to classify any America First advocate as a threat to their regime. President Trump’s trial was brought by the leftist and Soros-funded New York District Attorney Bragg, tried before the leftist activist Judge Merchan and held before jurists from liberal New York City. Making an example of President Trump, the trial twisted normal rules of the court system and came up with new laws or an application of older laws. The purpose of this was to humiliate anyone who opposed the cultural and political Marxists in power, starting with President Trump.
To be certain, because we live in the most litigious society in the world, politicians and many Americans have paid countless settlements to resolve claims, especially false claims, for decades. Yet because President Trump is a Biden regime opponent, he got the show trial treatment and, in a nutshell, was indicted on 34 felonies for allegedly settling a claim and failing to properly file it as a campaign expense despite the Federal Election Commission (the federal agency in charge of federal campaign laws) investigated and dismissed it. As did the Department of Justice. Nevertheless, like a good show trial leftist would do, Mr. Bragg was hell bent on twisting the law in some manner to crucify President Trump and fulfill a campaign promise.
Incidentally, if you think for one minute that this show trial was not coordinated and orchestrated by Biden’s henchmen, think again. Michael Colangelo, a Democrat in Biden’s Justice Department, departed his position in 2022 to join District Attorney Bragg’s team as a senior counsel prosecuting President Trump.
Here's what you need to understand: Mr. Bragg never specified what the supposed crime was, and the leftist activist Judge Merchan instructed the jury that it need not decide on any specific crime, just any crime they could think of, and that they did not need to be unanimous on which laws were violated. This is the heart of a show trial because it makes it easy to then convict someone you want to rot in prison. By the way, no one knows what the jury came up with, it’s all secret.
President Trump’s sentencing is set for July. He’s facing a maximum of 136 years in prison. He could also get probation. No other former President has been charged and tried or convicted of real crimes, including President Obama, who authorized the murder of U.S. citizens, President Clinton, who lied to Congress, or Mr. Biden, who was found to have classified documents in his possession. Even Hillary Clinton, a candidate for President of United States, was never charged for bleaching her server and destroying tens of thousands of emails.
Reminiscent of the political opponents detained and jailed by Communist Russia in the 20th Century, what Joe Biden and his political henchmen are doing to Donald Trump is eerily similar and appalling. This is establishing a disastrous precedent for our legal system. After this week, our devolution into a third-world authoritarian corrupt kleptocracy is more evident. If there is a real appellate court in New York State and not a show trial court, this injustice will be reversed. In a world governed by the rule of law, the prosecutors and the judge would also be disbarred for engaging in such an egregious abuse of power.
Justice in America is lost, and we must all pray to God that this verdict will be overturned in an appeal.
House Must Expand Claim Fund for Downwinders
The United States government conducted atmospheric weapons development tests as part of Cold War security from 1945 to 1962—an era when other nations also engaged in nuclear weapons testing and proliferation. These tests exposed thousands of Americans to cancer-causing ionized radiation from nuclear fallout.
The Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) was initially enacted by Congress in 1990 to provide partial restitution to individuals, known as downwinders, who were exposed to radiation as a result of above-ground nuclear weapons testing. The act was intended to acknowledge and address the harm caused to these downwinders and their families and to provide some measure of financial support for their suffering. RECA has awarded over $2.4 billion in benefits to more than 37,000 claimants since its inception in 1990. Compensation is paid from the Radiation Exposure Compensation Trust Fund.
Unless reauthorized by Congress, RECA is set to expire on June 7, 2024. However, the current RECA program is limited in its scope and leaves many affected communities without the support they need, including my constituents in Arizona.
Unfortunately, due to a drafting error when writing the law in 1990, RECA failed to properly define the boundaries of impacted populations and many Americans who resided in counties in proximity to where the testing occurred were mistakenly excluded from the program for no logical or scientific reason, including people that reside in Mohave County, Arizona and Clark County, Nevada.
As RECA will likely come up for reauthorization next week when the House of Representatives returns from the Memorial Day district work period, it is crucial for Congress to expand its scope to include all of Mohave County, Arizona.
Mohave County is home to countless downwinders exposed to hazardous levels of radiation and toxic waste as our government tested over 200 nuclear weapons above ground, spreading radioactive fallout across the country, especially in the Western United States. Many of these victims have since developed serious health issues such as cancer and respiratory problems.
Since first being elected to Congress, I have worked tirelessly to fix the error that excluded downwinders from Mohave and Clark Counties from filing claims with the Department of Justice.
There is broad, bi-partisan agreement that the United States must compensate all downwinders who have been stricken with cancer and other diseases because of reckless government actions. Now would be the correct time to strengthen RECA and cover these communities in Arizona by expanding the program, already authorized by Congress, that has been life-changing for so many people.
By expanding RECA, Congress can finally provide much-needed compensation and support to individuals who have suffered at the hands of the federal government. If Congress can waste more than $200 billion in taxpayer dollars to fight a proxy war in Ukraine, it certainly has a moral responsibility to stop dragging its feet and extend RECA coverage to all of Mohave and Clark Counties.
Gosar Demands BLM Give More Time for Public Comment
I sent a letter this week to Bureau of Land Management Director Tracy Stone-Manning requesting an extension of the public comment and review period for the Arizona Draft Business Plans. The Draft Business Plans are open for public comment and review through June 12, 2024 and I encourage everyone to provide comments.
As a result of the negative economic impact these plans pose to Arizona, but especially to my District, I asked BLM to extend the public comment and review period by 30 days. It is only reasonable for the Bureau to allow as much input from local communities as possible.
The Draft Business Plans in question would saddle many Arizonans with unacceptable fee increases of between 50 and 300 percent. Specifically:
- 🚨 For the Bullfrog Day Use Area, the day use fee would increase 100 percent from $5 to $10.
- 🚨 For the Burro Creek Campground, the individual site fee would increase 100 percent from $14 per night to $28 per night, the group site fee would increase 60 percent from $50 per night to $80 per night, and the RV dump station fee would increase 50 percent from $10 per RV to $15 per RV.
- 🚨 For the Crossroads Campground, the individual site without electrical hookups fee would increase 300 percent from $5 to $20.
- 🚨 For the Lake Havasu Shoreline Sites, the day use fee would increase 100 percent from $10 to $20, the overnight without electricity fee would increase 100 percent from $10 to $20, and the annual pass fee would increase 100 percent from $100 to $200.
- 🚨 For the Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area, the standard amenity day use fee would increase 200 percent from $2 to $6, the expanded amenity overnight camping fee would increase 175 percent from $8 to $22, and a newly expanded amenity group overnight camping fee of $42 would be administered.
- 🚨For the Wild Cow Springs Campground, the individual site fee would increase 150 percent from $8 per night to $20 per night, and the group site fee would increase 50 percent from $20 per night to $30 per night.
- 🚨For the Windy Point Campground, the individual site fee would increase 150 percent from $8 per night to $20 per night.
America, and especially Arizona, is blessed with a vast array of tranquil wilderness. With 80 percent of Americans living in urban areas, we should make it easier, not more difficult, to enjoy and explore outdoor public lands.
Gosar Recognized as a Champion of Limited Government
The Institute for Legislative Analysis released a study this week on U.S. Congressional voting trends – nearly 65,000 votes – finding only 21% of members in Congress have voting records that aligned with the limited government principles of the U.S. Constitution at least 80% of the time. Guess who’s on the list for being only one of the top 10 in Congress most aligned with the limited government principles of the U.S. Constitution? Yours truly! I’m proud of my conservative record advancing the limited government principles of the U.S. Constitution. You can click here to view how all 535 Members of Congress ranked on adherence to limited government.
It’s Mail Time!
📬 I received over 7,300 letters in May, and I appreciate hearing from everyone. Here is a sample of letters I received this week.
📨 Diana B. from Wickenburg, AZ chimes:
I too am disappointed by this verdict, but not surprised. It clearly illustrates the complete weaponization of our judicial system. If it was you or I, we would be locked up forever unable to financially fight this fight. It’s horrifying. In my view, this will further motivate majority of Americans to place Trump as their next President.
👉 Diana, damn straight we would be in jail. It’s called lawfare. Just look at all the right-leaning people rotting in jail right now. If an America First conservative dares to speak up, they pay the price.
📨 Michael M. from Kingman, AZ shares:
I watched some of the trial on TV, what was the crime? After college, I spend seven years on and off covering the court system as a newspaper reporter. Mostly murder trials, but some civil cases. I do recall the charges and reason I was in court. Still scratching my head on this one. I've never seen a trial held on the cause of “We Don't Like You.”
👉 Michael, respectfully, it’s not that the left doesn’t “like” us, they absolutely hate our conservative values and principles. They want us cancelled, silenced, censored, bankrupted, audited, jailed or dead. Their thirst for power far greater exceeds any sort of love they might have for America in their dark souls.
📨 David Edwards from San Tan Valley, AZ writes:
I agree with you: this has proven once and for all that this verdict points to the partisan Democrat party and Biden's DOJ, the writing was on the wall - Stop Trump by all means financially, now lock him up, well his attorney will appeal, which they have a right, But it is disgusting to see Bragg and the Prosecution team gloating and smiling , smirking and laughing, People will see that this is a direct effort to keep The Democrats in power, that is their goal: power, money and screw everyone else that goes against the policy and ideology of the leftist haters who have taken over. It is sick.
👉 David, you’re right: it is sick. It’s very sick. It’s also a disgrace. As President Trump said following the verdict: “This was a rigged trial by a conflicted judge. The real verdict is going to be November 5th by the people.”
Finally, Casey McC. from Prescott, AZ suggests:
📨 This is what happens when you repeatedly double down on
a criminal.
👉 Casey, you’re wrong. This is what happens when the once fair jury system in the United States has been weaponized and used against political dissidents. The left abuses our legal system without consequence and all roads lead to Joe Biden and his corrupt Justice Department.
