Gosar Votes in Favor of National Defense Authorization Act
Gosar Amendments Included—Finally the Truth About Afghanistan
This week, I voted in favor for the National Defense Authorization Act, legislation which authorizes the appropriations for the Department of Defense and defense-related activities at other federal agencies.
I am pleased to report that the several of my amendments were included in this important legislation which supports our men and women in uniform while ensuring the necessary resources are available to rebuild and maintain a prepared military force to safeguard our country.
For example, my amendment authorizing employees at the Yuma Proving Ground to use nonelectric vehicles in the performance of their duties was included. Electric vehicles have their place.
But there are no charging stations in the middle of the desert. The troops at YPG were having their mission training compromised by substandard electric vehicles due to a mandate by woke administrators—all of whom sit in an air-conditioned office far away from the desert training grounds.
Another key amendment of mine was requiring the Secretary of Defense to expeditiously publicly disclose all records relating to the war in Afghanistan, including Biden’s tragic and incompetent withdrawal of American forces. The American public has a right to know who made the disastrous decision to close the military airbase before evacuating our people and equipment. We have a right to know who failed to plan for proper security at the airfield in Kabul that resulted in an attack on our troops and dozen of deaths. We have a right to know why they abandoned American citizens to fend for themselves. We have a right to know why they left $80 billion in military equipment, what exactly was left, and who made this decision. Overall, this was a failed mission. From the outset in 2001, this mission failed in that it was unjustified to invade this poor country. Afghanistan had nothing to do with carrying out the attack on 9/11. The U.S. invaded a country, then bombed it, attacked it, and attempted to install a puppet regime government. In addition, the State Department attempted to undermine Afghan values and culture and impose leftist values that the people of Afghanistan reject. In short, we want the full truth about Afghanistan, particularly the withdrawal, and the military leadership responsible for that disaster should be fired.
Over the past three years, the Biden administration has broken decades of precedent and politicized the military to make it another government agency weaponized to fight in the culture war. From COVID vaccines, to drag queen shows, to skirting the Hyde Amendment, the Biden administration has been focusing on a military that is woke rather than one that is militarily ready.
The FY24 NDAA also pushes back against the radical woke ideology being forced on our servicemen and women and restores the focus of our military preparedness. For these reasons, I was proud to cast my vote in support of the NDAA. Read more about the NDAA and why I voted in favor of it by clicking here.
Gosar Votes for Important Pro-Israel Provisions in the NDAA
Speaking of the NDAA, the House passed important pro-Israel provisions as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), including:
- $500 million for U.S.-Israel missile defense cooperation;
- $47.5 million for U.S.-Israel anti-tunneling cooperation through FY26;
- $50 million for U.S.-Israel R&D cooperation to help both countries better prepare for 21st century challenges;
- The Expediting Israeli Aerial Refueling Act of 2023, to help deter Iran by expediting training and deployment of the KC-46 refueling aircraft to Israel.
Since taking office, I recognized the importance of the U.S.-Israel defense cooperation. This week’s vote is a continuation of that steadfast support.
Biden Border Policies Allow Terrorists to Walk Across Border
A recent report from Judicial Watch revealed the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) releasing an illegal alien on the terrorist watch list in Yuma, Arizona. Shockingly, it took two weeks for the terrorist to be arrested. The truth is, because of the historically high number of illegals being welcomed into the United States by Joe Biden, dedicated border agents are overwhelmed and do not have the resources needed to prevent terrorists from simply walking into Yuma from Mexico. Joe Biden has put our entire country and the safety of all Americans at risk because of his failed open-border policies.
Nearly seven million illegals have now poured into our country thanks to Biden’s reckless open border policies, including 125 on the terrorist watch list this fiscal year. To put that into perspective, this total is more than the FY2017, FY2018, FY2019, FY2020 and FY2021 combined.
Congressman Gosar and Senator Marshall Introduce Legislation Forcing Agencies Turn Over Emergency Spending Reports
This week, Kansas Senator Marshall and I introduced the National Emergency Expenditure Reporting Transparency Act, bicameral legislation requiring agencies to post detailed spending reports relating to national emergencies.
As noted in my press release, transparency and open governance serve as the foundation upon which Americans trust their federal government. However, despite repeated bicameral demands, the Biden administration has failed to provide any spending report related to the COVID-19 national emergency, as required by the National Emergencies Act. The Biden administration cannot choose to ignore laws for political expediency.
In joining me, Senator Marshall noted Biden has failed miserably to follow through on this pledge for greater transparency which has been elusive when it comes to expenditure reporting related to the Covid-19 national emergency declaration.
The Biden administration has stonewalled us at every turn when it comes to providing the required reports and that’s why we need the stricter guardrails contained in the National Emergency Expenditure Reporting Transparency Act.
Time to Disband NATO?
Former Democrat Representative and presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich has a perceptive take on NATO, the Ukraine war and the risks of global war:
“Key to this miasma is NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, whose principal European members are committed to a total war with Russia, but on the U.S.' tab.
NATO military strategies have lacked cohesion and coherence and have led to stasis on the battlefield. Victory over Russia has occurred in the western media, but not on the battlefield. There will be no ceasefire because trickery is no longer an option.
NATO officials will look to escalate the war. The U.S. knows it cannot. Clearly Europe needs a new security architecture which includes Russia with security guarantees for all member states. How can this be achieved with NATO resistance to an end to the war?
As the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) gathers to deliberate in Vilnius, Lithuania, one item that should be on the agenda is the sunsetting of the treaty which established NATO.
The dissolution of NATO itself may be the only way to prevent wider war and to stop the United States and the world from being plunged into the abyss of a wider, cataclysmic war.”
Mr. Kucinich is not wrong. NATO, as an entity, is urging more and more war in Ukraine, as long as you, I and the rest of the U.S. taxpayers pay for the war. We are $200 billion into it already…and counting.
And NATO is fine with killing young Ukrainian men. Over 200,000 so far.
The reality is our money, our weapons and our advisors are merchanting death on a daily basis in Ukraine and hundreds of thousands of young men are now dead because of it.
If you ever looked at how WW1 started, it has similarities to what is going on now. There were alliances and treaties binding countries together, and a thirst for war and death by elite leaders, and the result was millions of dead lives.
I continue to condemn our involvement in Ukraine. Congress has not voted to declare war on Ukraine. Our actions in Ukraine are not authorized, illegal and immoral. And now, with the transfer of globally banned cluster munitions (for more on this see last week’s newsletter here), our nation, specifically the Biden regime and the military industrial complex, is fomenting war crimes and crimes against humanity.
I encourage everyone to take five minutes and read this very well-written opinion editorial by Dennis Kucinich.
Gosar Visits Pleasant Valley Veterans Retreat
This weekend, I joined Gila County Supervisor Woody Cline and visited to Pleasant Valley Veterans Retreat’s open house. The Retreat takes a natural human-centered approach to helping veterans and their families heal through exposure to the outdoors and connectedness to programs and community. The retreat is a blessing to our nation’s veterans and is a source of pride for Gila County. I was honored to have been able to stop by and thank the courageous men and women who have served our nation.

It’s Mail Time!
I receive thousands of letters each month and I appreciate hearing from everyone. Here’s a small sample of the letters I received just this week:
Lewis C. from Yuma is frustrated and writes:
Since all the proof is in, why are the Republicans waiting and still pointing fingers. Why are impeachment paper not served? Everyone is sick and tired of all the BS and chatter, they are becoming lost to the wind.
Lewis, I share your frustration. I will say, as much proof as we have about the extensive corruption by the Biden regime (likely the most corrupt regime in American history) including bribery by Ukraine and China, drug use, sexual abuse and other crimes (tax cheating and gun crimes), my committee is currently collecting evidence from whistleblowers, including Ukrainians. We will be seeking impeachment, and criminal referrals to special prosecutors. Both the FBI and the DOJ have been attempting to cover up for the Bidens—just as they did with Hillary Clinton. These formerly vaunted agencies are compromised and need to be reformed, cut and largely defunded to focus only on real law enforcement.
John M. from Kingman is similarly frustrated:
I hear Republicans complain a lot! We want action! Get that moron out of office! Doing nothing is paramount to agreeing with Biden! I have so many questions about what is being done to stop the Biden regime and Fauci! Fauci is the worst criminal this world has seen since Hitler! He needs to be tried and executed for crimes against humanity along with anyone else that was involved with the weaponizing of corona viruses! Biden owes me a great deal of money as well as Fauci! I want answers and trust me everyone I talk to feels the same way! The Biden regime is an utter failure! Fauci and the democrats or “demonrats” (as they should be called) are responsible for the pandemic! It was done to remove one of the greatest Presidents this country has ever seen! So please start doing and not just talking! You know the old saying..."actions speak louder than words!" Thanks!
John—What was once hyperbole (that the Covid virus was a weaponized gain of function virus released either on purpose or accidentally) is now established. Fauci is the main proponent of gain of function research. There is little to no legitimate medical reason to make non-lethal viruses into lethal viruses, which is what gain of function research does. Millions of people are dead globally, and in this country. Not only was Fauci and the NIH behind the gain of function research, when people started to get sick, Fauci lied about masks, lied about method of transmission, and lied about the proper therapeutic protocols for treatment. Due to his lies and incompetence, treatments with Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine were banned and denigrated. Meanwhile, other nations allowed these therapeutics and they had far better outcomes then we did. Fauci also pushed for ventilators on patients which ultimately killed thousands of people, and he banned family members from visiting dying loved ones. This is cruel and inhumane. In short, it is time for a special prosecutor to look into crimes committed by Fauci and others that lead to the deaths of millions.
Steve C. from Wickenburg shares:
There is zero doubt that the FBI now knows they are untouchable by the people and the courts. Wray's arrogance, deflection and lack of remorse, over even acknowledgment of investigative bias in the FBI, prove the agency is too far gone to repair. We are far better off without them and allow state police and US Marshalls deal with criminal investigations, than a corrupt FBI. The FBI and other federal agencies are tainted with democrat bias due to decades of democrats in position to hire like-minded democrats for federal jobs. They are now so deeply rooted in that there is no way other than starving them of funding to end the corruption. Even the proven FISA warrant corruption did not phase Christopher Wray. Shut it down.
Steve—You make excellent points. I will not even attempt to justify what the FBI has been doing. Keep in mind, it has been notoriously corrupt for decades. There is no reason for our country to maintain a secret police force that spies on the people, lies about it, sets people up and engages in open partisan corruption. Recall the corruption by the FBI used to convict former Senator Ted Stevens. Don’t forget Representative Renzi. But for democrats they ignore obviously criminality and claim they “don’t have enough evidence.” What I would like to see is the elimination of FISA courts, warrantless searches, and civil and criminal forfeiture laws. In its place, I would have the FBI function to assist state law enforcement on actual crimes like drug smuggling, murder, child sex trafficking and the like. I would remove all jurisdiction for white collar crimes, political investigations and partisan affairs and let state law enforcement handle these matters, reduce its budget substantially, and make the FBI director a four year appointment that must be rotated with new people.
Ann O. from Yuma writes:
I cannot agree more about this national emergency expenditure reporting act. Biden has not been truthful to the American people since day one in office, he continues to use covid as an excuse to hide money and use it however he chooses. I am so glad I did not vote for him as he is just a continuation of Obama, look at his son and how he has hidden a lot from the American people. I can tell you honestly this man is hurting the American people with his expensive policies and how he back-tracks on what he states he will not do but turns around and does it. He is not fit to be president, he is too old and is not able to make his own decisions. And, you cannot tell me he is not taking some form of dementia medicine? I truly like reading how you are trying to make it right for the hard-working Americans in Arizona. Keep up the good work, Paul.
Thank you, Ann. You said it well. Biden has been a continuation of the disastrous Obama policies and many of his staff are former Obama staffers. The harm they inflict on our nation will take years to repair. We saw Trump turn it around, the question is whether it can be done again.
