Lake Havasu City, AZ - Congressman Paul Gosar, DDS (AZ-04) issued the following statement announcing his invitation to Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky to Arizona to engage in peace negotiations.
“The world has seen enough death and destruction between Russia and Ukraine. The Western countries appear cavalier to using Ukrainians as cannon fodder and disinterested in de-escalation. The United States pays over $3 billion a year to the United Nations and funds over 25% of its peacekeeping operations. Why has there been no serious effort at peace talks? What happened to the United Nations’ primary mission—to avoid another Great War in Europe?
I am not a diplomat. But I cannot remain silent any longer as death and destruction not only continue unabated in Ukraine but financed by my own country. I‘m compelled to invite Presidents Putin and Zelensky to Arizona to begin conversations to deescalate nuclear tensions, terminate the war and end the unfortunate death and destruction plaguing both countries.
The current posture is untenable and a pathway to peace is long overdue. Months of escalation in weaponry and rhetoric endangers not just the citizens of Russia and Ukraine, but the whole world.
