Washington, D.C. -- Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-09), issued the following statement after voting for H.R. 9494, the Continuing Appropriations and Other Matters Act of 2025, legislation that would extend funding of the federal government through March 28, 2025 and includes the SAVE Act, which would amend current law to require states to obtain documentary proof of United States citizenship when registering an individual to vote in a federal election, including for mail-in voting:
“Voters are overwhelmingly concerned about the integrity of elections and rightfully so. Recent news reports note several states have identified hundreds of illegal immigrants registered to vote. For example, in Texas, Governor Abbott recently announced the removal of more than one million ineligible voters, including over 6,500 illegal aliens. Ohio’s Secretary of State referred nearly 150 illegal aliens for prosecution after recently identifying 600 lawbreakers registered to vote despite not being citizens. Virginia Governor Youngkin recently removed 6,300 illegals from voter rolls as part of nearly 80,000 voter registrations removed. In Oregon, election officials admitted this week that more than 300 non-citizens were also mistakenly registered to vote.
Only legal voters have the right to vote in America yet states across the country are facing the daunting reality that illegal immigrants are showing up on their voting rolls. In fact, according to the Only Citizens Vote Coalition, there are nearly 22 million potential non-citizen voters in the United States thanks in large part to the Biden-Harris open border policies. Additionally, Washington, D.C. and 19 states hand out driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants providing a clear loophole that allows these lawbreakers to register and vote.
Voting is a fundamental right extended only to American citizens and is at the heart of our republic. The SAVE Act will restore integrity in our elections by ensuring that only American citizens can vote in our elections.
With 13 million lawbreakers pouring across Border Czar Kamala Harris’ open border, this legislation is a crucial step towards ensuring our elections are fair and honest and that is why I voted in favor of a short-term funding bill that includes the SAVE Act,” concluded Congressman Gosar.
