For the past two years, I haven’t been afraid of joining the fray and standing up to leadership demanding accountability. I’m here to tell you that this won’t change under Democratic leadership. I plan on doing the same thing in the 116th Congress as I have done since I was first elected to the House, fight for the people of Arizona’s 4th Congressional district.

Build the Wall

Walls have proven to be a successful tool at decreasing illegal immigration. After a wall was built in 2005 in Yuma, Arizona illegal traffic dropped 90 percent over 15 years. This week, I joined my House Freedom Caucus colleagues in taking a strong stance on the upcoming spending bill. I will not support any end of year spending bill unless it properly funds a wall on our southern border. It’s time for Congress to keep its promise and build the wall to secure our border.

Telephone Town Hall

I enjoyed hearing from many of you this week during my Telephone Town Hall. When I’m in Washington I want to make sure the people of Arizona’s 4th Congressional district are able to talk directly to me about their concerns. I’m always encouraged by the number of great ideas and questions that come from these events. It was no surprise that our border wall was one of the leading topics of the night. As I mentioned on the phone call, I will continue to fight to ensure we secure our southern border. I look forward to continuing the conversation whether it’s on the phone, in person or even via email.  Please keep the ideas coming!

Unwinding Land Grabs

Environmental stewardship is not stewardship without the input of state and local communities. The BLM’s Environmental Impact Statement and related plan amendments recently released are another step towards unwinding one of the largest land grabs in our nation’s history. Thanks to the strong leadership of President Trump and Secretary Zinke, we are more closely aligning with the vision of our Founding Fathers and preventing further encroachment on private lands by the federal government. Hopefully, the Forest Service will catch up and follow DOI and BLM’s efforts.

Reversing WOTUS

Like a villain in Scooby Doo, the past Administration almost got away with an unparalleled expansion of Federal power. The WOTUS land and water-grab rule proposed by the Obama Administration was one of the greatest regulatory threats to the West and rural communities. Fortunately, this legally-dubious effort was unmasked for what it was by the Supreme Court and this Administration. I’m happy to see some sanity restored to Clean Water Act implementation. Thanks to Acting Administrator Wheeler and President Trump for taking the lead and crafting a definition that adheres to the original law, promotes extremely clean and safe waterways, and remains Federalist in its nature.
