This week, my colleagues and I requested a meeting with Department of Justice (DoJ) officials to discuss very troubling reports that the Biden Administration and the Justice Department are mistreating non-violent prisoners arrested in connection with January 6.
They refused to meet with us.
We then attempted to meet with officials at a detention center in D.C. where many of these prisoners are still being held.
Again, we were denied a meeting.
We had sent a written request, by email, to both the DOJ and the Bureau of Prisons one week earlier. They acknowledged receiving the letters but refused to reply.
Let me state unequivocally, I deplore violence. That’s why I have repeatedly asked the DoJ to release the over 14,000 hours of surveillance video taken on January 6, so we can hold those accountable who may have broken the law.
Over six months have passed yet nearly 200 of these individuals remain separated from their families. Mounting legal bills threaten to bankrupt them. There are unconfirmed reports that some prisoners are being or have been tortured and held in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day.
These are not unruly or dangerously violent criminals. These are political prisoners who are now being persecuted and bearing the pain of unjust suffering. Imagine the outrage from the LEFT if everybody who rioted last summer received the same treatment that the January 6th rioters are receiving.
Unfortunately, Mr. Biden and his Justice Department seem more interested in ruining the lives of these folks instead of equal justice. The excessive overcharging against the January 6 rioters when compared to the slap on the wrist for the wide scale arson, looting, assault and murder by the BLM terrorists last summer is a shocking indictment of corruption, unequal treatment, and political persecution.
I will continue to demand equal justice under the law. Individuals arrested for illegal acts on January 6 deserve to be treated fairly. We cannot let these injustices go unnoticed and I will not stop fighting for their rights.
