Gosar Reintroduces Downwinders Parity Act
The National Day of Remembrance for Downwinders was recently recognized marking the anniversary of the first atmospheric nuclear test at the Nevada Test Site, approximately 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada. It is an important reminder that downwinders exposed to radiation and cancer-causing carcinogens and who developed cancer or other related illnesses deserve restitution for their suffering.
Unfortunately, when Congress first passed the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) in 1990 to make it possible for victims of illnesses resulting from atmospheric nuclear testing to file claims with the federal government, it failed to properly define the boundaries of impacted populations.
As a result, downwinders that reside in counties in proximity to where the testing occurred are excluded from this program for no logical scientific reason, including people that reside in Mohave County, Arizona and Clark County, Nevada.
In response, this week I re-introduced, H.R. 1362, the Downwinders Parity Act. legislation reauthorizing RECA and correcting an administrative error that arbitrarily excluded areas of Mohave and Clark counties. Not only were downwinders residing in Mohave and Clark counties closer to the Nevada Test Site than residents in other eligible counties, but they also have the second-highest overall incidence rate of cancer in their respective states.
Since first being elected to Congress, I have worked tirelessly to fix the error that excluded Downwinders from Mohave and Clark Counties from filing claims with the federal government. The authorization for RECA expired last June, and Congress has a moral responsibility to reauthorize and update it by including both Mohave and Clark counties as affected areas.

Latest DOGE Corruption Discoveries: EPA, HHS, FEMA, Hamas
As I noted in last week’s newsletter, Democrats and progressive leftists are losing their minds and are fighting tooth and nail to protect the corrupt federal agencies fueling their sinister progressive agenda.
The latest corruption uncovered this week by DOGE includes the Department of Health and Human Services handing out $22 billion to illegal aliens to purchase cars and homes.
It gets worse, much worse. It was also discovered this week that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) forked over around $80 million to house illegal aliens in New York City hotels. Thankfully, President Trump announced that his administration has clawed back those dollars.
Perhaps the biggest spending scandal revelation this week was by Trump’s EPA Administrator, Lee Zeldin, who discovered that in the final days of the corrupt Biden regime, the agency funneled $20 billion in taxpayer funds into "an outside financial institution" and was "purposefully designed to obligate all the money in a rush job with reduced oversight."
Incidentally, have you noticed that the crazies criticizing Donald Trump and Elon Musk never complain about what DOGE has uncovered. Why? Because it’s indefensible. Instead, Democrats and deep state bureaucrats complain only because they do not want Americans to know how billions of their hard-earned tax dollars are being wasted. The entire federal government has functioned as a Ponzi scheme to fund NGO's and so-called charities’ billion-dollar money laundering operations. Tax money went to leftist causes and groups who pay executives outrageous sums, and those same executives donate heavily to Act Blue and Democrat candidates.
The only Democrat that seems to be making any sense is Pennsylvania John Fetterman. This week Senator Fetterman responded to his fellow Democrats and the media that are saying Trump is causing a constitutional crisis by noting there “isn’t a constitutional crisis” with the Trump Administration. He’s not wrong. Just because you don’t like the policy, it doesn’t make it a Constitutional crisis.
I agree with White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt who declared this week that "the real constitutional crisis is taking place within our judicial branch, where district court judges in liberal districts across the country are abusing their power to unilaterally block President Trump's basic executive authority."
President Trump is following through on his campaign promise to rid the federal government of waste, fraud and abuse and is rightly pulling back the curtains that have been closed for years. He’s cutting off the slush fund to the organizations that hate and hurt America and he is just getting started.
USAID Used Taxpayer Dollars to Fund Hamas Terrorists
Speaking of wasteful spending, a troubling report this week from the Washington Free Beacon details how the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funneled millions of taxpayer dollars to terrorist groups, including Hamas. Current and former USAID officials admitted that the money was spent funding terrorist organizations to undermine Israel. For instance, During the Biden Administration, USAID gave $100,000 to a Palestinian activist group whose leaders hailed the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a designated terror group. Just six days before Hamas's Oct. 7 assault on Israel, USAID handed over $900,000 "to a terror charity in Gaza involved with the son of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh." In 2016, during the Obama administration, USAID sent $310 million to a Palestinian cement factory that contributed to the creation of Hamas' hundreds of miles of terror tunnels in Gaza. It is estimated that more than one billion dollars in American taxpayer dollars in so-called humanitarian aid has been diverted by Hamas since their horrific October 2023 terrorist attacks on Israel. Why the hell is our government sending billions of dollars to fund a terrorist group that kidnapped and killed Americans?
Tax Season Is Upon Us
The Internal Revenue Service has begun accepting 2024 tax returns, commencing the season when accountants race to help Americans file by April 15. If you need help filing your taxes, the IRS has made available some resources to assist processing your tax return. For example, you can CLICK HERE to find answers to many of your tax questions.
Numerous taxpayers in Arizona may also be eligible to use the IRS Free File software. In fact, the IRS expanded its free Direct File program to 25 taxpayers in states to file their taxes directly with the IRS. To determine if you qualify for the free software, CLICK HERE.
If you are more comfortable with a tax professional handling your tax return, CLICK HERE to find someone to help prepare them. You can also use the Interactive Tax Assistant to get answers to your questions and find information about filing status, credits or deductions, dependent eligibility, and more.
Finally, be on the lookout for unscrupulous individuals posing as IRS agents. Never give your personal information over the phone to anyone who calls out of the blue asking for it. It could be a criminal looking for a quick payout or trying to steal your identity.
I fully realize none of us want to pay taxes when our money is siphoned to help illegal aliens and drug cartels enter our country, or to pay for illegal aliens' food, housing, medical care and transportation, or to assist Hamas, or to buy condoms for terrorists, or to fund another endless war in Ukraine or to pay for gender-changing surgeries around the world. Thankfully, Republicans are working on extending President Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to lower taxes soon and stop the fraud and corruption in our government.
As always, if you need help with the IRS or any federal agency, please contact my district office in Goodyear, AZ at 623-707-0530.
It’s Mail Time!
📬 I receive thousands of letters each week and I appreciate hearing from everyone. Here are a few letters I received this week:
Leslie J. from Eagar writes:
📨 Thank you to Congressman Gosar for introducing the Downwinders Parity Act. My mother was born and raised in Eagar, and in 2008 was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We learned about the original RECA and she filed for compensation. Sadly and ironically, she received the payment the same week she started her last round of chemotherapy, and she passed on the 4th of July, 2009. The RECA compensation allowed my father to pay off their home, so it was a blessing. I’m sure there are still many of us who potentially qualify for this compensation, so big appreciation for your efforts to continue it.
✍ Leslie, thanks for the thoughtful note. I am sorry to hear about your mom’s suffering, but I am heartened to know your father was able to find some peace because of the RECA compensation fund. As I mentioned above, Congress has a moral responsibility to help those stricken with illness caused by our government. RECA was wrongly limited in its scope and leaves many affected communities without the support they need, including my constituents in Arizona. I’m fighting to ensure that RECA is reauthorized and expands its scope to include all of Mohave County, Arizona. I will keep you updated.
Donald Z. from Surprise shares:
📨 There is an article in Breitbart News detailing how AOC is providing information to illegals as to how they can avoid deportation. She advises them they don’t have to provide info to authorities, don’t have to identify themselves, don’t have to open their doors, etc. In my opinion she is aiding and abetting illegals to violate our immigration laws. She should be expelled from Congress and I’m asking you to initiate that procedure. She is directly working against the interests of the United States!
✍ Donald, Luckily, America rejects the ideas expressed by New York Representative Ocasio-Cortez. That is why more than 77 million Americans voted for President Donald J. Trump and delivered him a broad mandate to secure our southern border and to put America first. Border Czar Tom Homan suggested this week that AOC may be impeding federal immigration authorities in an apparent effort to help illegals avoid deportation, which I find unconscionable. By the way, the Constitution does provide a framework for expulsion. Specifically, Article I Section 5 of the Constitution of the United States says that Congress can expel a member with two thirds vote. We will see where this goes.
