Washington, DC – Representative Paul Gosar, DDS (AZ-04) issued the following statement after voting in favor of the Motion to Recommit H.R. 8297, the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, legislation which would prohibit individuals from transporting a female minor across state lines to avoid parental notification laws regarding an abortion.
“Sex trafficking, human trafficking and sending young pregnant girls across the country in the company of anyone, including pimps and sex traffickers, is immoral. I voted in favor of stopping this evil practice. We will have to wait until we retake the House to remedy this tragic law since all Republicans voted to stop this type of trafficking and all democrats voted in favor of sex trafficking,” stated Congressman Paul Gosar.
Background:
The democrat majority passed legislation allowing sex predators and others to transport young pregnant girls to any state they want to avoid state abortion and parental notification laws. For example, in Arizona, ARS 36-2152 requires at least one parent to consent for an abortion for their minor child.
Democrats objected to the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act and state abortion and notification requirements by passing federal legislation allowing, on a federal level, the transporting of minors (by anyone, not simply a parent, but a pimp, human trafficker, sex predator or groomer) to take a pregnant minor female to a state that does not require parental notification like Arizona does.
