Gosar's Legislative Effort to Cut Waste Clears Subcommittee Today, U.S. Congressman Paul A. Gosar, D.D.S. (AZ-04) issued the following statement after language from one of his legislative efforts successfully passed the House Legislative Branch Appropriations Subcommittee and was included in the Fiscal Year 2015 Legislative Branch Appropriations Bill: "One of my top priorities is eliminating waste, fraud and abuse whenever I can find it. One incredibly wasteful expense is life-size pictures printed on scrims that conceal scaffolding; these pictures cost thousands of taxpayer dollars and serve no legitimate purpose. The Architect of the Capitol justified this lavish practice by asserting that it is 'used extensively in Europe.' This is America and we should not be wasting taxpayer money in this manner."
BACKGROUND In the recent restoration of the Supreme Court, a superfluous full-size photograph was printed on a scrim in order to conceal scaffolding during the renovation process. Hard-working taxpayers paid $139,000 total for that scrim, with $37,000 alone going towards the printing of the full-size photographic image. ### |
