This past week, I was able to utilize the power of the purse and pass an amendment through the House prohibiting funds for "Sanctuary City Policies" which are in violation of the Rule of Law and our Constitution. The amendment passed by a vote of 236-182 and even one Democrat voted for it.
Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4, gives Congress clear jurisdiction on immigration matters. A nation of laws must enforce established law, not seek ways to skirt around it. Sanctuary Cities defy federal immigration statutes by harboring untold numbers of illegal immigrants and providing safe havens for criminals, many of whom are violent offenders.
Instead of enforcing the law and bringing these rogue municipalities into compliance, the Obama Administration has aided and abetted their circumvention of federal statute. This lawlessness is not only unconstitutional, it has proven to be deadly and put the security of our communities at risk.
When the federal government fails to enforce the law, Congress must act to prevent sanctuary city policies that are recklessly endangering their citizens and willfully violating federal law. Click HERE to read more.
HILLARY CLINTON SHOULD NOT BE ABOVE THE RULE OF LAW
The recommendation from the FBI to the Department of Justice NOT to pursue criminal charges against Secretary Clinton defies common sense, especially after Director Comey laid out a laundry list of illegal actions.
Once again, the Clinton political machine, aided by the Obama Administration, has shown that it plays by its own rules while the rest of us have to follow the Rule of Law.
FBI Director James Comey confirmed that Hillary Clinton was "extremely careless," that the agency found "110 classified emails" and "eight top secret emails" on her private servers, and that it was possible "hostile actors gained access" to sensitive information as a result of her unauthorized actions.
The bottom line is Secretary Clinton’s deceptive actions put our national security and American lives at risk. There has never before been a major nominee for president with such a fraudulent record of lies and corruption. I am calling for a Special Prosecutor to be appointed to formally investigate and prosecute Clinton for mishandling classified information.
By the Numbers: FBI Investigation of Hillary Clinton's Secret Email Server:
-Confirmed that Clinton was "extremely careless"
-110 emails found to be CLASSIFIED at time of sending or receipt
-52 email chains found to be CLASSIFIED at time of sending or receipt
-2,000 additional e-mails were UP-CLASSIFIED to make them confidential
-8 email chains contained TOP SECRET information
-Possible "hostile actors gained access" to sensitive information
-0 criminal charges recommended by the FBI for Hillary Clinton
In the real world, the American people don't have a "get out of jail free" card. Neither should Hillary Clinton.
PRESSING FBI DIRECTOR FOR ANSWERS ON CLINTON EMAILS
On Thursday, I participated in a House Oversight and Government Reform Full Committee hearing which sought to investigate the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) recommendation not to prosecute former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified information:
Everyday Americans face serious consequences when they break the rules. This week’s oversight hearing revealed there is a clear double standard for the Clintons and their political operation. Even Secretary Clinton’s staff, which undeniably put our national security at risk, is getting away with no punishment for their lawlessness.
The precedent established by Hillary Clinton’s illegal activity and the FBI’s recommendation not to prosecute threatens the very foundation of the Rule of Law.
As Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis said, "In a government of laws, the existence of the government will be imperiled if it fails to observe the law scrupulously…If government becomes a lawbreaker it breeds contempt for law: it invites every man to become a law unto himself. It invites anarchy."
Director James Comey should have recommended Clinton be prosecuted under Section 793 or Section 1024 of title 18. Unfortunately, his recommendation deprived the American people of the opportunity for justice in this matter.
Hillary Clinton and the Obama Administration have left behind a shameful legacy of lawlessness resulting in irreparable damage to the idea that all Americans are equal in the eyes of the law.
THE IRS TARGETED INNOCENT AMERICANS...
SO I TARGETED BONUSES FOR SENIOR IRS EMPLOYEES |
On Thursday, the House passed my amendment prohibiting bonuses for senior career appointees at the IRS and all other federal agencies that receive funding through the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Act.
It is unconscionable that Lois Lerner and other dishonest senior officials within the IRS have received more than $100,000 in bonuses in recent years. Committing perjury, purposely disposing of hard drives and more than 24,000 emails in order to stymie an investigation, all while providing an extremely poor level of service to taxpayers doesn’t warrant a single penny in bonus compensation.
If signed into law, my amendment will save at least $4 million next fiscal year alone. Federal bureaucrats receiving $100,000 bonuses for working in a lawless administration is a slap in the face to hard-working taxpayers. FreedomWorks key-voted in favor of this common sense amendment and I was honored to have their support. Click HERE to read more.
Kody Ashbaugh (pictured below) is a graduate of Northpoint Expeditionary Learning Academy in Prescott, AZ and just finished his summer internship on Capitol Hill working for my friend, Congressman Marlin Stutzman of Indiana. Before he heads back to Arizona, I had the chance to spend some time with Kody on Friday to hear how working on Capitol Hill has changed his life. Additionally, Kody is a member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region program which helped inspire him to go to college next year and study agriculture. I'm so incredibly impressed and proud of this young man and all Arizonans should be too.

During Wednesday's House Oversight and Government Reform Full Committee hearing, my colleagues and I pressed Director James Comey for answers on the Clinton scandal for more than five hours.
