Locking in Arizona: On Wednesday, President Trump visited not just Arizona again, but the Fourth Congressional District once more before the election. This shows how valuable our state truly is in national politics and lends to the support and patriotism our district shares with the President. Speaking outside of Laughlin-Bullhead International Airport, the President highlighted how together he and I are fighting to secure our border, get the government out of the way of private business development, and defend our Constitutional right to bear arms. I was honored for the President to recognize me as a warrior for our district and for an America First agenda. Thank you to everyone who attended to watch their President speak, your patriotism was strongly felt by myself, the President, and everyone in attendance!

EPA Letter to DOJ - Investigating Foreign Influence Over Environmental Groups:
This week, EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler announced that he had referred cases of unreported foreign influence in domestic environmental advocacy groups to the DOJ. While accepting money from foreign entities is not illegal, doing so covertly is illegal as outlined in the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). Allegations that countries like China and Russia are funding U.S. based “green” groups to undermine American energy independence are deeply concerning, especially considering that covert influence and control of advocacy groups is a tactic that Russia and China apply around the world. For example, Putin funds and supports “grassroots” green environmental groups in Europe who raise alarmist fears and protest European natural gas production, shutting down European gas production, which reinforces Russian influence in Europe through its reliance on Russia for gas. The accusation that China and Russia are deploying these same tactics in America are a threat to our national, economic, and energy security and I applaud the EPA and DOJ for investigating these allegations.

Picking Up Where We Left Off:
On Thursday, the Bureau of Economic Analysis announced that in the third quarter, U.S. GDP grew 7.4 percent, which is the single largest quarter of economic growth on record. With this growth, America has now recovered two-thirds of pandemic losses in a single quarter, and at the same time real consumer spending rose by the largest quarterly increase on records at 8.9 percent. With even more great news, over the last five months, 170,200 Arizona jobs were created. Before the pandemic, America was witnessing the greatest economic boom it had ever seen. Because of this strength, the U.S. economic contraction has been much less severe than any other major Western economy, and with this strength we have been able to find real economic success in the midst of a global pandemic. As a small case study of how disastrous invasive and large scale lockdowns are, the European Union’s eurozone grew at a record 12.7 percent last quarter, which is actually larger than the American growth. However, their growth rate was so high because their government forced lockdowns were longer and more strict than in America, meaning any resumption of normal life would equal an “explosion” of economic activity as compared to none. However, European governments are already reimposing mandatory and stringent lockdowns again due to new cases, and this economic growth has already stalled and many predict the eurozone economy will shrink next quarter. This is the cure being worse than the disease, and here in America Democrats want to follow course and close the economy. Under President Trump and Republicans, the economy is experiencing record growth, even during a global pandemic. You can view the White House Council of Economic Advisors Twitter announcement HERE

ACB Confirmation:
Last week, Amy Coney Barrett was sworn in as the 115th Supreme Court justice, succeeding the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Senate Republicans confirmed Barrett, 52 to 48. It was the first time in 151 years that a justice was confirmed without a single vote from the minority party, a sign of how bitter Washington’s decades-old war over judicial nominations has become. I applaud the President and the Senate's efforts to swiftly seat Justice Barrett. This is a win for President Trump to secure her confirmation just days before the election - which could very well be contested. Her impact will be felt immediately with big decisions in the pipeline, including challenges related to the Affordable Care Act, signature Trump administration immigration plans, the rights of same-sex couples and the census.

Extending Education Recognition:
This week, I joined Congressman Ralph Norman (SC-05) on the Home Educators Are Teachers Act which would assist families which teach their children at home by extending the tax deductions K-12 teachers are entitled to parents. Currently, the IRS provides “eligible educators”, defined as K-12 teachers instructing in a traditional school environment, up to $250 in the form of a tax credit for unreimbursed education expenses, such as books, supplies, and computers. This legislation would direct the Secretary of the Treasury to clarify the rule to include individuals providing home-school education in the definition of “eligible educator” to ensure parents receive the same benefits for serving as the educators of their children. This legislation is even more important now as many parents have assumed the role of educator as their children’s schools have closed due to Covid. They should not have to take on extra expenses just to ensure that their child receives a proper education, and this legislation will assist many families across Arizona and the U.S.

Keeping Us Safe: In recent weeks, I have been highlighting the outstanding efforts of our Border Patrol agents, and they have risen to the occasion once again. On Tuesday, Border Patrol agents in Tucson arrested Guatemalan national Honorio Perez near the village of San Miguel on the Tohono O’odham Nation. Not only did Perez make illegal entry into our country, but he is a convicted felon who was arrested and imprisoned in Georgia in 2012 for a sexual offense against a child. Since he was removed from the country with a lifetime ban following his jail time, Perez will now be prosecuted on felony immigration charges. Open borders and blanket amnesty policies from the left incentivize known criminals to try and gain illicit entry to our country. Luckily, Arizona communities can sleep safer this week, reassured through the hardwork and dedication of our Border Patrol agents. Thank you to the men and women who serve on our Border Patrol, the Fourth Congressional District will always have your back.

Not on Our Watch: Bad actors like Iran are trying to capitalize on the range of global and domestic events that America is addressing to try and capitalize on what they view as a distracted America. Iran has established ties with the Venezuelan Socialist dictator, Nicolás Maduro. Of even greater concern, the United Nations Security Council allowed the Iranian arms embargo to end on October 18, 2020, ignoring the Trump Administration’s objections, and even before they ended Maduro expressed his interest in purchasing ballistic missiles from Iran. This is of serious concern because Iranian missile capabilities in Venezuela would put the mainland United States in striking range. Further, last week an Iranian aircraft sanctioned by the U.S. Government for shipping weapons to Syria landed in Venezuela. While there is no confirmation of what the plane’s cargo was, it clearly highlights this threat. That is why this week I wrote a letter to the State Department which first and foremost expressed support for the Trump Administration’s proactive response to this growing threat and their statements that all efforts would be taken to block the shipment of missiles and even destroy them in Venezuela should they arrive there. The letter also extended our desire to support and assist the Administration’s efforts to ensure all resources and actions necessary were prepared ahead of time. This letter highlights that America is not distracted by the state of current events and that every and all action is being taken to protect the American homeland and people.

Boeing Commits $1.3 million to Support Tribal Nations: Last week, Boeing committed $1.3 million to support Indigenous communities across the United States. The investment package includes $300,000 in grants for Southwest Tribal Nations to improve access to clean water, bridge the digital divide in education and provide better natural disaster response and preparation. "It is inspiring to see Boeing continue to make its commitment to help improve the lives of those they serve," said Gwendena Lee-Gatewood, chairwoman of the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
