As a fellow Westerner, I am elated to see Judge Neil Gorsuch confirmed by the Senate to the Supreme Court. His fervent respect for the Constitution and the role of the Court, and unwavering dedication to interpreting the law as written, will ensure our nation is well served for years to come.

Furthermore, as a Constitutionalist devoted to upholding the Rule of Law, Judge Gorsuch’s exceptional track record makes him uniquely qualified to fill the massive void left by the great late Justice Antonin Scalia. I look forward to his opinions issued from the Highest Court in the Land.

FOX NEWS FEATURES PINAL COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT:
The Anti-Sanctuary City: Arizona County Bucks National Trend
It was great to see Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb featured on Fox News highlighting the efforts of the Pinal County Sheriff's Office to crack down on illegal immigration.

Once again, Arizona is leading the nation when it comes to enforcing the Rule of Law and securing the border:

(From Fox News:)
Casa Grande, Ariz. –  While an increasing number of cities declare themselves safe zones for illegal immigrants, a sheriff in Arizona is bucking the trend by openly working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Border Patrol.

“I’m not for sanctuary cities,” said Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb. “That’s pretty much it in a nutshell.”

Pinal County, south of Phoenix, is the size of Connecticut. Its 450,000 residents are an ethnic mix – black, white, Hispanic and Native Americans.

Lamb took office in January and instituted a cooperative program so his jail deputies are cross trained as ICE agents, allowing them to question and immediately determine an inmate’s immigration status. In practice, it allows for a seamless transition of criminal aliens from the County courthouse or jail to ICE custody for deportation.

I was lucky enough to meet with Sheriff Mark Lamb and Chief Deputy Matt Thomas (pictured below) last weekend and get a tour of the Pinal County Sheriff's Office in Florence. Arizonans should rest easy knowing these brave law enforcement officers have got your back.

USING THE POWER OF THE PURSE TO STOP SANCTUARY CITIES
The concept of "sanctuary city" policies is in direct opposition to the Rule of Law and our Constitution. Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4, gives Congress clear jurisdiction on immigration matters.

I’m pleased to see President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions lead on this issue, but the House must also act by using the power of the purse. It’s long past time for Congress to crack down and defund sanctuary cities that are proven to be deadly and put the security of our communities at risk.

Last week, I took action on putting a stop to ‘sanctuary city’ policies by submitting an appropriations language request to the House Appropriations Committee to prevent funds from going to any city that prevents law enforcement officials from faithfully executing our immigration laws.
