Gosar Announces Winners of the Congressional Art Competition

Each year, Congress sponsors a nationwide high school art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Congressional Art Competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

I had the pleasure this week of announcing the winners of the 2021 Congressional Art Competition. The first-place winner received an $8,000 scholarship to Northern Arizona University and his artwork will be displayed for one year on the wall in the walkway from Cannon House Office Building to the U.S. Capitol where it can be seen by lawmakers, staff and visitors from all over the world.

I am incredibly proud of the students from across the district who participated in the art competition. Thank you to all the wonderful parents and teachers who encouraged students to participate and thank you to all the students who submitted artwork this year.

Gosar Visits Mohave Accelerated Learning Center Career Exploration Day

Earlier this week, I had the privilege to attend the Mohave Accelerated Learning Center (MALC) Career Exploration Day. MALC is a fantastic charter school and consistently rated the best public school in Mohave County and one of the top schools in the entire state of Arizona.

I appreciated this opportunity to speak to the next generation of leaders and share a copy of the United States Constitution with every student. Many thanks to Dr. Vickie Christensen for the invitation to visit MALC!

Gosar and House Conservatives Push Back on Critical Race Theory

Karl Marx

Karl Heinrich Marx, socialist revolutionary and known drunkard whose cult followers today seek the deconstruction of the United States.

Gosar and House Conservatives Push Back on Critical Race Theory

Critical race theory (CRT) is a Marxist far-left ideology that believes racism is systemic in America and that laws should discriminate based on race to remedy past discrimination. CRT seeks to teach Americans they are either racists or victims based on the color of their skin, while rejecting the principle that “all men are created equal.”

The premise of CRT is that the United States was founded on racism, built on racism and continues to be the most racist nation in the world.  All of this is false and defames our ancestors and founders. The CRT “solution” to all this fake racism is what they call “deconstruction.”  Deconstruction is exactly what it sounds like:  the CRT advocates vow to destroy all of our social institutions including our churches, our monuments and statues, our economy, our schools and universities and even our buildings and architecture. The ultimate deconstruction is our Constitution and our Republic.

I pledge to each of you to fight these cultural and political Marxists with all I’ve got and I ask you to join me. These people pose an existential threat to our way of life and everything we cherish that is right and good.

Unfortunately, CRT is now finding its way into government institutions and even the classrooms of our children. In response, my Republican colleagues and I introduced the Combatting Racist Teaching in Schools Act and the Stop Critical Race Theory Act. These two bills would prevent CRT from being taught in elementary and secondary schools and universities and would ban it from being taught in the federal workforce. This poisonous ideology seeks to undermine our society by pitting people against each other to justify government control over all Americans.

I am proud to support these bills to keep America unified and to continue to advance our shared mission to form a more perfect union.

“Gas is Too Damn High”

Too Damn High

Former NYC Mayoral Candidate Jimmy McMillan founded the "Rent is too Damn High" political party and ran on that platform. The above is Mr. McMillan and a play on his famous mantra.

“Gas is Too Damn High”

Notice how the price of gas and diesel have skyrocketed since Mr. Biden took over? Notice how all your groceries have increased 15-25%? Stopped by lately to buy some lumber or building materials?  Prices are two to three times higher.

When the price of energy goes up everything else increases. It takes fuel to transport lumber and food. We enjoyed record prosperity under President Trump, but in just 4 months Mr. Biden has, with the help from Democrats in Congress, destroyed that prosperity.  And they are not done.

This week, the House Natural Resources Committee resumed a hearing to consider Democrat bills to cut off domestic oil and gas production in favor of more foreign imports. Democrats are convinced that “new energy” can be magically created while simultaneously cutting off as much domestic production as possible.

A new report released this week by the International Energy Agency highlights that today’s mineral supply falls well short of what is necessary to transition towards a more electrified future.

The United States and the world are facing a significant mismatch between the demands of minerals and their availability. Rather than determine how America can secure and provide for its own energy future, Democrats are focused on killing more jobs, reducing domestic energy, and putting our energy security further into the hands of foreign adversaries.

You can read my full statement from the hearing this week HERE.

Biden Administration Seeks to Shutdown More Public Lands

Land affected by Biden's 30 x 30 Land Grab

Biden Administration Seeks to Shutdown More Public Lands

As many of you know, Arizona and many western states have very little private land.  Between national and state parks, monuments, tribal lands, and other designations, most land is off limits to Arizonans for anything other than snapping a picture - if that.

In 2015, I noted that 81.8% of Arizona land was publicly held and only 18.2% was open to private owners. The Arizona Republic thought I was wrong and “fact checked” me but concluded that “Gosar correct on private land in Arizona.”

Not content with owning a majority of all land already, the Biden Administration is seeking to take even more. The goal is to stop energy and mining in our country under the deconstruction strategy to weaken our nation. If we can’t mine or drill in our country we will have to rely on China, Russia and other countries that believe in themselves and their own sovereignty.

The Biden Administration and the Department of Interior released its initial strategy for its “30 by 30” initiative, a measure to lock up millions of acres public lands and water from economic productivity. Locking up vast swaths of land and water under onerous designations ignores the scientific principles embodied in numerous federal, state and local fish and wildlife laws. True conservation supports communities by providing both a cleaner, healthy environment and a robust economy. Conservation means caring for what you have, not using more than you need and managing your precious resources for this and future generations. Common-sense, practical solutions that rely on science and leverage the knowhow of local stakeholders are the best path forward to ensuring we have a healthy environment that we will leave better than we found it. In response, I cosponsored the 30x30 Termination Act to terminate this Executive Order, ensure no net loss of non-federal land, and prevent withdrawing federal lands from mineral development.

Other Highlights From This Week

I want to provide you with a quick update regarding the backlog at the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC).  As you may know, the backlog has severely impacted our veterans and their families who need their records to receive VA claims, hold family funerals, and more. I wrote to NPRC to remedy this problem back in November of 2020, but the issue remains. This week, I joined several of my colleagues and once again wrote to the Archivist of the U.S. to request detailed information on how they plan to solve this issue for our nation’s veterans. I will keep you updated on any progress concerning this troubling issue.
