The Crossing of the Rubicon: "To cross the Rubicon." Do you know where this commonly used phrase comes from? It derives its origin from 49 B.C. when the Roman Senate ordered Julius Caesar to return to Rome from Gaul where he was serving as Governor. Julius Ceaser did so but did it in full military uniform and in command of his army, the 13th legion. Roman law required military Generals to temporarily disband their armies and return to civilian dress before crossing the "Rubicon River" (the Northern Roman boarder). With this simple act, Julius Caesar effectively declared war on Pompey and the Roman Senate with the intent of becoming Emperor. According to Suetonius, Caesar uttered the famous phrase ālea iacta est (the die has been cast). Today, the phrase "to cross the Rubicon" has survived to mean "to irrevocably commit to a course of action or to make a fateful and final decision."
Last week, Twitter and Big Tech crossed the Rubicon and they can never go back... Last week Big Tech declared war on free speech and the very idea of democracy. Last week the New York Post broke a story alleging that Hunter Biden introduced Vadym Pozharskyi, an adviser to the board of Burisma, to then Vice President Joe Biden, with the meeting occurring before Vice President Biden pressured Ukrainian officials to fire a prosecutor who was investigating Burisma. The emails which document this meeting between senior Burisma officials and Vice President Biden are under investigation as they point to abuse of power by the Vice President, using the powers of his office to protect the profits of Burisma and Hunter Biden as well as their corrupt practices. While this is all very disturbing, it is not even the most concerning part. Following the publishing of this story, Facebook announced (through a current spokesman who is a former Democratic operative) that they would censor the spread of the story. Twitter then did the same thing. Twtter then locked the New York Post out of its Twitter account. Facebook and Twitter are limiting the spread of information about a Presidential candidate during a presidential election. Why didn’t Facebook limit the spread of the fake Russia Hoax and “Steele Dossier?” Because Big Tech is biased. Preventing voters from accessing information regarding one of the candidates for President, which could point to corruption, is election interference and Big Tech’s attempt to boost the election chances for Joe Biden over President Trump. Such illegal practices are always troubling, and even more so within 20 days of the election. To address this new development, I joined my Republican colleagues on the House Oversight and Reform Committee on a letter to Chairwoman Maloney for an emergency hearing before the election to determine who is responsible for these censorship policies and decisions and to address how to prevent further election interference before November 3rd. Instances like this are why Congress must pass my Stop the Censorship Act of 2020. I have led the charge on Big Tech censorship issues for years, highlighting the concerns of this unchecked power. Hopefully Congress will now awake to my warnings and take serious action to end the censorship of political speech, free market competition, and more. At the time of this publication, the New York Post still does not have access to its Twitter account.

Demanding Answers: The American people deserve to know if the FBI was in possession of Hunter Biden's laptop during the impeachment of the President and I'm demanding answers. The New York Post story was troubling for a series of reasons, such as the implications that Vice President Biden abused the powers of his office and now wants to act like the so-called “moral police” in the current election. But even more troubling is the allegation that the FBI has been in possession of the computer and hard drive outlined in the article since December 2019. Notably, this date is right when the House of Representatives had finished its impeachment sham against the President and just prior to the start of the Senate trial. A large portion of the President’s defense rested on the notion that Hunter Biden was peddling influence with his father to Ukraine. If the FBI was truly in possession of this equipment, it would have been secretly withholding a key piece of evidence in a Presidential impeachment trial - a very concerning accusation. That is why I joined Congressman Andy Biggs (AZ-05) in a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray with questions regarding the FBI’s knowledge of the laptop, hard drive, and its information and eagerly await his response.

Promises Made. Promises Kept. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times - border security is national security, and President Trump knows this. Last week I was happy to hear Border Patrol Chief Rodney Scott’s update that 360 new miles of border wall are complete, 221 new miles are under construction, and 157 new miles are under the pre-construction process. At a pace of 10 new miles of wall per week, the Administration is well on its way to complete 450 miles by the end of the year. The wall serves as a force multiplier for the Border Patrol, aiding the physical and technological surveillance of the border to provide a strategic approach to border security. I continue to fight in Congress to ensure the President has the resources necessary to construct the wall to aid our Border Patrol agents, national security, and Arizona communities threatened by illicit products and persons coming over the border. The American people need and deserve a secure border. They’re getting one from this administration. The wall is a testament to a key promise made and kept by President Trump.

Resolution to Remove Nancy Pelosi as Speaker of the House: I have held since day one that Nancy Pelosi is unfit to hold the esteemed office of the Speaker of the People’s House. She has proven my reservations time and time again. When her party lost to President Trump, she used Congress to push her political agenda, using taxpayer money to try and reverse the outcomes of 2016. In the current 116th Congress, the House under her “leadership” stopped its lawmaking responsibilities, resorting to partisan and unproductive hearings and even the first party-line vote on an impeachment inquiry, all the while passing less laws for the American people than the previous Congress. From breaking her own Covid distancing regulations by using her privilege to visit a hair salon, to her disrespectful actions at the State of the Union, to her now second attempt to remove the President by trying to incorrectly apply the 25th Amendment, to her declining mental fitness, it is clear that Nancy Pelosi is even less qualified than before to lead this Congress. That is why I was proud to join my Republican colleagues in introducing a resolution which would call to remove Nancy Pelosi from Speaker of the House.

National Federation of Independent Business: Last week, I was honored to receive the National Federation of Independent Business’s (NFIB) Guardian of Small Business Award. The award, which is based on a member’s voting record per Congress, reflects my votes supporting different small business measures throughout the 116th Congress. Arizona’s small businesses fuel our state economy and contribute much economic growth to our communities, and supporting them is even more crucial during these unprecedented times. I will always have the back of our small business owners and employees, and I truly appreciate NFIB for its award and tracking which members of Congress are looking out for America’s small businesses and fighting to foster economic security and growth as we strive to rebuild the greatest economy our country has ever seen in the post-Covid world.

Confirming ACB: The President's nominee to replace late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has continued to impress in her confirmation hearings - and the American people agree. According to a Gallup poll released Tuesday, a majority of Americans, 51%, want Amy Coney Barrett to be confirmed to fill Ginsburg's seat; 46% do not. 3% have no opinion. 84% of Democrats are against Barrett's nomination, highest on record (78% opposed Kavanaugh).
Despite my disappointment that Democrats are clearly growing more partisan than ever, I am encouraged that a majority of Americans see Judge Amy Coney Barrett for who she is - a woman of integrity, a committed wife and mother and a sterling choice by Donald Trump. Amy Coney Barrett’s demeanor and poise are exceptional, her temperament is unflappable, and her empathy is unmatched.
Well-known liberal legal scholar Noah Feldman, with whom she served as a law clerk in the late 1990s, said, “I know her to be a brilliant and conscientious lawyer who will analyze and decide cases in good faith, applying the jurisprudential principles to which she is committed. Those are the basic criteria for being a good justice. Barrett meets and exceeds them."
Next week, Circuit Court Judge Amy Coney Barrett will become Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett - and the American people will be better for it. I would like to reiterate my support for the President's nominee and the Senate's decision to act swiftly to ensure the American people have nine Justices as the Supreme Court enters a busy Fall session.

@Rep.Gosar, DDS "A line was crossed yesterday and it is never going back. @Twitter is engaging in election interference. Furthermore, the actions that Twitter took yesterday constitute an incalculable, massive, in-kind contribution to the @JoeBiden campaign." See tweet HERE.

The Wuhan Coronavirus continues to unfairly burden hard-working Americans. Many have lost their jobs and are struggling to pay essential bills, such as rent and housing. On July 16th, Governor Ducey issued an Executive Order which extends an original order to allow tenants to qualify for a delay in enforcement of eviction actions under certain circumstances. If you are facing financial issues as a result of COVID-19, find here a checklist to see if you qualify for pandemic-related eviction relief. Other resources for rental payment assistance can be found here. In these unprecedented times, there are several Arizona and Federal resources available to assist your family. However, as many people in America are looking for assistance, many of these government agencies have been overwhelmed with inquiries, slowing their response time. If you are seeking assistance and not receiving timely responses, please do not hesitate to contact my district or Washington D.C. offices. My staff of dedicated caseworkers are here to help.
