Gosar Commemorates Legacy of Cesar Chavez

Cesar Chavez Commemorative Coin Act:

This week, we celebrated Cesar Chavez Day to commemorate the life and legacy of agricultural labor leader and Yuma, Arizona native Cesar Chavez. Chavez spent his life fighting for the American farmworker.  In stark contrast to Mr. Biden’s open border policies, Mr. Chavez was deeply committed to protecting the rights and economic conditions of legal American farm workers and opposed illegal immigration of all forms. Mr. Chavez saw firsthand how the surge of illegal immigration across our southern border deprived honest, hard-working American farm workers the right to make a decent wage and provide for their families.

To commemorate his life’s work promoting the American farmworker and the rule of law, I am sponsoring the Cesar Chavez Commemorative Coin Act to mint a coin in his name and to donate the proceeds to the Smithsonian Latino Center and National Museum of the American Latino. With this effort, we can honor his legacy and provide for educational and commemorative programs to preserve the great contributions American Latinos have made to America.

Pushing Back on Confucius Institutes

CCP Influence

A man protests the "CCP's" influence on college campuses.

Gosar Introduces the Higher Education Transparency Act:

On Thursday, I introduced the Higher Education Transparency Act which mandates that colleges be transparent about the presence of Confucius Institutes and other foreign influence programs on their campuses disguised as cultural and language programs. Unfortunately, foreign entities disguising themselves as cultural education institutions raise many concerns about academic freedom and autonomy on our public universities.  In particular, the Confucius Institute, a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) funded institution, operates in dozens of campuses across the United States and serves as a platform to advance China’s political agenda by exporting Chinese state censorship, control of academic staff, choice of curriculum and restricting free speech and debate in college classrooms.

For years, foreign governments who are global competitors to the United States and who do not share American values of freedom, tolerance and open discourse, have essentially bribed major universities with rich programs that often undermine our own government and culture. The extent and duration of these Trojan horse influencers should be made transparent to the public. Students educated at our colleges and universities deserve transparency when making choices about the institution they plan to attend and classes they wish to take.

Zero Correlation Between Hate Crimes and Telecommunications

What are they hiding

Gosar Demands the Biden Administration to Release Report on Hate Crimes:

Did you know that the Biden Administration refuses to release the latest National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) report on the role of telecommunications in hate crimes?

At the direction of Congress, the NTIA conducted a thorough and comprehensive study on the correlation between speech and hate crimes and the use of media. The report contains critical data relevant to the public discussions regarding the actions by Big Tech to suppress speech.  Unfortunately, the Biden Administration refuses to release this important report to the public, which concludes that ‘there is no evidence that electronic communications, including internet, cause hate crimes.’

In response, I sent a letter to the NTIA demanding they release and publish the full report on its official website to provide full transparency to the American public. Americans deserve the truth about alleged internet inspired hate crimes. Why the latest report is being suppressed is confounding to me. This data impacts daily public discussion in this country. Rather than hide its findings that freedom of speech on the internet does not contribute to a rise in hate crimes, the Biden Administration should make the report public.

The latest findings undermine false narratives claiming a correlation between internet speech and hate crimes.

A copy of the letter Congressman Gosar sent NTIA can be read HERE.

Fighting for Our Community

Apache Junction Social Security Administration Building

Gosar Opposes Efforts to Move Apache Junction Social Security Office:

The Social Security Administration has made its intention known that it is considering shuttering the Apache Junction Social Security office and moving more than 20 miles away, to the town of Gilbert. Such a move is entirely unacceptable to citizens of Apache Junction that depend on a conveniently located facility.

For the past several months I have been in regular contact with the Social Security Administration expressing my strong opposition to any proposed closure of the Apache Junction Social Security office. Apache Junction and areas on the east end of Greater Phoenix remain some of the largest growth areas for retirees. A move to Gilbert would represent a hardship on my constituency for years to come.

Gosar Travels District, Meets with Constituents:

Earlier this week, I was able to travel to Colorado City to join Mohave County Economic Development Director Tami Ursenbach and the Uzona Chamber of Commerce to tour local businesses. It was an honor to meet some of the great citizens in Colorado City who are investing their time and money in our community to help create jobs and drive the economy of the area.

Other Highlights From This Week

E-Verify is a federal government program that allows employers to confirm whether potential employees are legally allowed to work in the United States. Unfortunately, the program is only being utilized in a handful few states. This week, I cosponsored the Accountability Through Electronic Verification Act. This bill expands the E-Verify program by requiring all employers to use it, and permanently reauthorizes the program. Currently, E-Verify use is voluntary for most employers, although some states mandate its use. The bill would also increase civil and criminal penalties for hiring unauthorized aliens, require DHS to update E-Verify's design to help prevent and detect fraud and identity theft, and would require DHS to bar those who repeatedly violate immigration law from holding federal contracts or receiving federal grants.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) hid the outbreak of COVID-19 from the world, inflicting health and economic suffering on the American people. To hold the CCP accountable, I cosponsored H.R. 2272, the Chinese Government COVID-19 Accountability Act to direct the President to develop a plan for seeking reimbursement from the People’s Republic of China for funds that the United States has used to address the COVID-19 pandemic

As many of you know, I believe in the sanctity of the lives of the unborn.  I have worked to promote a culture where abortion in not a first resort and one day will not be an option, not because of laws but because of a cultural understanding of the live involved.  But the Biden Administration and its enablers share a death cult fascination with abortion. Sadly, the Biden Administration has expanded access to abortions in America. Many states have adopted parental notification laws to protect minors and the rights of parents. These laws, however, are easily and often circumvented due to differing abortion laws in neighboring states. This week, I also cosponsored the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act which would make it a crime to knowingly transport a minor across state lines to obtain an abortion without satisfying parental involvement law in the minor’s state of residence. Physicians would also be required to comply with parental notification laws.
